  1. Happy Birthday, Mr. Rose. Can I make a wish on your behalf?
  2. I looked around here and didn't see a thread about Duff's birthday. How has a GNR forum with a billion members not said Happy Birthday to Duff "King of Beers" McKagen? Cheers, big guy! Note to Mods: If someone already made a thread I didn't see, please delete mine.
  3. I liked what he did with the guitar solo, but the rest of it doesn't really appeal to me.
  4. My fake vocals seem to have been last modified in late February of 2018. Any edits after that were minimal. I won't be divulging when I first received the cellphone clip.
  5. It would probably be best just to ask @Kaneda what he remembers about what he had/heard. Probably not a huge problem for him to divulge an extra detail or two, 6 years later.
  6. I'd be curious to know "how" Kaneda heard it. Odds are he heard something over the phone as bait. And I know my clip is raw sewage, but by October 24, 2017, I had quit working on it. It was 2 minutes and 30 seconds long, and I suspect could have fooled many people under the right circumstances. And I wasn't the only one with my clip.
  7. Holy shit, it just occurred to me that the cellphone guitar solo could have been Ashba. I may need to phone a friend on this one. @Voodoochild?
  8. Probably already mentioned: The cellphone clip is from.....(fill in the blank...2010-ish?)....., and it has a completely different guitar solo (by Finck) and different song structure. Some vocals have been cut since that party recording. Maybe this helps with the guesswork?
  9. @Blackstar, I didn't know this topic existed until you linked to it today. What an incredible collection of data you've found, and what a fantastic presentation it is... thank you.
  10. I'm no musical expert. I just like doing puzzles, so take this for what it's worth. I think these are probably final vocals. The vocals on Monsters are all great. Many vocals on The General seem to be intentionally distorted (artistic choice). It's probably best to assume they are all final, and be surprised if they end up slightly different.
  11. No travesty. I'm not much of a thread-starter. Too much pressure. My reaction to the leak was something like...."Holy shit! That's WAY better than what I came up with!!!" It also quickly occurred to me that I got very close to 0% of the lyrics correct, and that made me very happy. It was kinda cool to get some of the vocal melody right.
  12. This is probably a better question for Voodoo or another guitar expert that's highly familiar with each of the lead guitarists' styles. I'm no gambler, though I would bet the solo from the cellphone recording was Finck.
  13. That epic guitar trill is from a Buckethead song called "Infiltration" (2007 album Cyborg Slunks). Look it up on Youtube if interested. The bits used for my mix start at 2:57. My first solo on it was a rebuild of Finck's solo using FL studio, which sounded lame. I replaced it with BH notes from the stems. Then a bit later, I (re)stumbled upon "Infiltration" and just knew that was the tone I wanted for that solo.
  14. MONSTERS Lyrics A tour-de-force of any old passion A broken heart that was out of fashion Dynamic duo keep your ..(figure).. crashing My early warning was your satan(i)c laughing I was there for you Its all I had to do Oh but its over now Oh but its over now I was there for you Its all I had to do Oh but its over now Oh but its over now The monsters...... You stole my soul with the devil's romancing All alone in your bedroom, dancing Thought I could feel somebody worth having But in the end I guess you're good for the damning I was there for you Its all I had to do Oh but its over now Oh but its over now SLASH The monsters...... The more I did, what I did, I did with you There's no excuses for the hell that you put me through I never did, I was a kid, would I kid with you? To make it better there's just nothin' that I wouldn't do I doubt there's anybody left that wants to know the truth The dirty secret that you hid away inside of you Who ever thought I'd be around to shed a light on you Well here's the story baby I got nothin' else ta do I was there for you Its all I had to do Oh but its over now Oh but its over now I was there for you Its all I had to do Oh but its over now Oh but its over now I was there for you Its all I had to do I was there for you Its all I had to do I was there for you
  15. Something tells me that Seiya was just missing a comma or a dash, and probably meant to imply something like: "no chorus, no guitar riff.....kinda like november rain " If I'm wrong, don't shoot me. Not til next week anyway.
  16. Great points, all. If the 7" comes with a download card for digital release, I imagine that would be a nice band-aid for those who've been injured by the news of this vinyl-only release. Well, at least kinda. Still, to beat a dead horse, most don't have access to record players, and some of us old-schoolers don't even do the digital purchasing thing. Hopefully, a broader range of buying options will follow at some point so that GNR can maximize both exposure and profit. Maybe that "broader range" will be a full album, like what was once common in the days of yore.
  17. Everything you said makes sense. But is this frustrated fan reaction simply due to The General being the most legendary, most anticipated, unheard, unreleased track in GNR history? At 20 years in hiding, it more than doubles the legend and hype that surrounded This I Love. I actually kinda like the idea of doing gimmicky releases like this, but......um......for THIS song? This is not a complaint. It's more of a statement of bewilderment.
  18. If any of you haven't seen Bucket perform live, you owe it to yourselves to add THAT to your bucket list.
  19. Thank you for this quote! I had completely forgotten about it. My misguided doubts about it being The General were entirely from FL calling it a "Monster." That's an odd tease, considering there's another song with Axl's "meanest vocals" ever (or whatever he said on Trunk) that is supposed to be called "Soul Monster". That actually wouldn't be a bad title for the cellphone song if it is about what I think it is about.
  20. I think whether it is The General is actually still debatable. But I can 100% guarantee you (as @Twinalebloodmentioned) that the orchestration on the cellphone clip exactly matches parts of that old concert intro, with the drums perfectly matching that orchestration's tempo. Even if you can't clearly hear those things on the clip, they can be visualized in spectral frequency. I can hardly believe this, but after Fernando's "Monster" tease, I'm actually starting to wonder if we've all been making some incorrect assumptions for more than a decade (Axl quote about hearing it somewhere, etc). Guess we'll know soon enough.
  21. My first opinion is that Buckethead is fucking awesome. My next opinion is that Slash used to be - and may still be - fucking awesome. My final opinion is that nobody cares about my opinions.
  22. That, sir, was absolutely fantastic. I enjoyed every single note.
