What was your very first impression of Axl? 😀🤔💡
Tom2112 replied to Karice's topic in GUNS N' ROSES - DISCUSSION & NEWS
Probably that they were all really cool. And I wanted a bandana. Never got that bandanna... -

Remember he spoke about this and said how he needs to think about how to tell his version of events while not rocking the boat too much. End of the day Duff and Slash have to be reasonable, they both wrote their books and there's things in there that Axl strongly disagrees with yet he has put that aside to play again... So even if there is some stuff they don't like in his book, they have to suck it up just the same. That stuff is 20+ yrs ago, they should be well past it now. I imagine Axl releasing a book would be more to have his version of the story out so the public could make up their minds. I just don't think it matters that much to people anymore though. But the break up is still a huge money spinner, one that they've never tackled since the reunion. -

I agree, I don't think he's unable to give grit in the studio it's just live when he's caught out, and even then he has good days and bad where he can deliver -

Well they don't have to do anything really, but if they hypothetically release a song and it somehow (despite all their worst efforts) got popular there would be an expectation of hearing it live. If gnr had retired as an active touring entity and were just making music like Queen did then fire ahead...just no facking AI, unless it's absolutely the only way of very NG things done. I'll contact my bank manager -

This is a fair and reasonable point, they could use the tech available today. My argument against is that 1. I'm a purist and don't want to hear robot music. I'm ok with some autotune here and there but the idea of AI enhanced Axl makes me nauseous. I'll take current day Axls attempt for better or for worse. 2. If Axl uses that tech to sound like a younger voiced version of himself, he paints himself into a corner of not being able to perform it live. 3. I'd have to imagine Slash would be seriously against this, he is a pure traditional rock guy and barely likes using pro tools. This idea is fine for deceased musicians to finish off demos like the Beatles etc. but Axl is still alive and fit to work. I think the point of the post is the reality of Axls vocal ability and the reality of performing live and that it's not going to get any easier so now is the time to release music and tour while he still can pull it off. I don't think he's going to be able to do jungle etc. in another few years. On topic. I would love to read an Axl book. I would not like to be the editor though🤣 -

Exactly. Anybody that thinks otherwise has their head up their arse. He could still hypothetically release plenty of music, but it would take an incredible shift in his thinking, workflow and creative process. Anyway, you're spot on with all of the above. *See serial confused face user below to find the no 1 head up their arse commenter😉 -
Slash and The Conspirators 2024 tour
Tom2112 replied to pentatonicamenor's topic in SLASH DISCUSSIONS
He sold a lot more before gnr reunited. On Dublin 2015 he had a lot more people than this years show which was largely curtained off and the floor was very easy to move around too. There are going to be fluctuations with countries but I'd say that Slash is comfortable around 5000/7000 capacity anything more is a stretch. Yeah I wanted a shirt but it was fugly -
I still think the guy who got DJs face tattoed on his entire back wins weirdest fan (sorry if you lost here, but 😬). And those people waiting outside Axls house.... Leave him alone, if you're that obsessed you're well aware that he loves his privacy, so allow him that.

Anastasia.... I mean have you heard of deep purple, neo classical and then of course all the classical music all those were influenced by?? It's a different type of song for Slash though. There's some variety for sure! And I get where you're coming from with the Izzy stuff! There is this idea that he was the the only writer in the room, he was a big part but those songs he wrote were heavily modded, so Izzy should be given loads of credit but Slash can write a song as can Axl and the others so this idea that people have that they can't write without izzy is a little bit of a stretch. He brings a certain simplicity / authenticity that might get lost by the others sometimes though.

You cannot compare. First off this thing that Slash's material is more original? I don't agree. Bot saying Izzy's solo stuff is either though. They both have very obvious influence. Secondly as pointed by others Izzy's just releases his albums, no tour no promotion. So obviously you don't hear about those records. I also agree that IF had decided to release music and grab himself a business team he could be playing to reasonably sized rooms and selling a lot more albums. His thought process obviously doesn't factor that stuff though. Slash on the other hand does factor this so he has a big team working for him = more well known solo material. If Izzy ever decides to get in the ring then we can make a judgement, but had Slash decided to release the way Izzy did with zero promotion and touring nobody would know his stuff either

Estranged. Absolutely insane but epic. Also Welcome to the jungle. -
I’d love a stripped down GNR show
Tom2112 replied to jacdaniel's topic in GUNS N' ROSES - DISCUSSION & NEWS
Best case scenario is a leaner set with less of the epic tracks, pianos and keyboards are as linked to gnr now as guitars, drum and bass. Plenty of material that can't be played without them, and then there's the problem of tracks that don't need piano/keys but Axl would struggle too much trying to sing them now. That's a very limited set, but it could be cool for Arenas and some larger theatres, that could be cool. -
Slash and The Conspirators 2024 tour
Tom2112 replied to pentatonicamenor's topic in SLASH DISCUSSIONS
I actually think that's the way everybody should go to a gig. Zero preparation or looking up what will be played. Now... With Slash he said pretty clearly there would not be gnr material, it's not his fault if people are checked out and not following his interviews or setlist fm but have tickets. On the flip side, Slash and his team can access geographic data for how well songs are liked/listened to know which songs are going to perform well, so he could have chosen from his solo catalog a little more carefully IMO.
