Is that the real Jack?

Best opening of a movie.

Nobody gives you nothing, you have to take it, cue Gimme Shelter by the Stones.

gentlemen? thanks for the reccomendations, gonna give em a pop

joy division control???

If it was Gentlemen, and you didn't get into it, fair enough. As long as it wasn't Up In It or Congregation - they can't be fairly assessed by those records. At the risk of sounding old and condescending, you might like Gentlemen better when you've got a few more years and at least one truly crushing break-up under your belt.

Control is Anton Corbijn's film about Ian Curtis. It's beautiful, just don't try it if you're not in the mood to be sad. I'll also add 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, but the same rule applies.

i saw Secetary last night. that was gooooooood  really seriously good!!! thank you!! it was...the right kinda balance between funny and fucked up and sorta disturbing and like...sorta went in and out of all of these themes sorta effortlessly, which is very...rare. its not like boom heres the funny bit boom heres the serious bit boom heres the disturbing bit...it was really goooddd!! well fuckin directed too. and you wonder where the whole fucking thing is going throughout. that was seriously SERIOUSLY fuckin good, i really dug it, thank you. REALLY REALLY worked on like...tons of different levels at once and does it well...REALLY dug it. the ABSOLUTELY funniest scene is when she's fuckin with that Pete and he's like bustin a nut like crazy and she's got this vacant look in her eyes and he rolls over n goes "i didnt hurt you, did i?" fucking class. was REALLY good though, thought it was gonna be this weird misogynist thing to begin with but it wasnt, it wasnt anything close to that, it was really cool :):) thanks for the 50th time.

watched Control too but just like...the beggining of it and thats not a reflection of it sucking or anything it was, at least up until the Sex Pistols bit after which i was falling asleep (alright, sue me, i watched Hairspray in between ) was REALLY fucking...at least well photographed then again, what more can ya expect its only like 10/15 minutes in but it looks promising.

Aww, cool! I think it's the most romantic movie ever made. Although I'm not totally sure what that says about me...:lol:

The new Hairspray or the old one? They're both very sweet, IMO.

It's not the S&M in and of itself that strikes me as so romantic! The new Hairspray is lovely, really. As a John Waters aficianado, I had reservations too, but they were totally unfounded. It's not a remake, it just takes the basic premise and goes in a different creative direction with it. He even makes an amusing cameo.

Re Saturnalia, that's awesome! In terms of the Whigs, I was thinking you should give 1965 a shot. No relationship angst, mostly just about getting laid. And chicks tend to dig it. :book:

not the S&M and more the idea (for me) or the transitional of the kind of master/slave thing, the give and take thing, the submissiveness and the glaring parallels between THAT and a real functional "normal" relationship, thats what i read into it. and thats not to pervert normality its more...assmilating it into the human expierience, its REALLY interesting as a movie i think. the idea also of cutting yourself to...validate suffering which is a pretty generic school of thought on the matter but then drawing that into the submission thing is REALLY interesting. i think my interpretations might say some fucked up shit about me actually. just A possible interpretation anyway

Don't they swap roles in Secretary, like she becomes the sadist? Or did I just extend the movie.

I sort of made a list of movies I actually think are good.

1. Tin Men - Dreyfuss/DeVito as salesmen.

2. Music of Chance - James Spader as poker player. Unmissable.

3. Mad Dog and Glory - Bill Murray as the expeditor of your dreams

4. King of Comedy - DeNiro, better to be king for a night, than smuck for a lifetime.

5. True Romance - Oh yes.

Had a lousy night with a couple pseudo intellectual acquaintances who wanted to see some boring ass documentary about libertarian socialism. I came home tired and depressed after that ordeal. Thankfully I had some cold Sake in the fridge and Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure in my dvd player. B)

I've only seen Bogus Journey.

"Dude I can't believe your mom divorced your dad, and married mine..."

"Shut up Ted!"

"I totally possessed my dad!"

Classic dialogue right there... :rofl-lol:

You owe it to yourself to see the first bill and ted movie. I'm surprised you missed it during it's original run. It was quite a pop culture sensation back in the day...

Becket: broken arrow is a guilty pleasure. I can't believe the nemesis for travolta is christian slater though. The guy is like 5'8 and built like a 15 year old girl.

 Yeah, I never really cared for Slater. If that were reality Travolta would have kicked his ass.

But yeah, definatly a guilty pleasure.

Think I'm going to go watch Face Off now. I like Travolta as a badass.

I actually bought the sountrack to Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey. It had a FNM track called Perfect Crime. It wasn't a blockbuster sountrack album I know but I was the one guy who bought it.

Haha

Don't feel bad, I actually own the Neverending Story soundtrack..................................

.....Special Edition Import

On Topic:

I watch Lolita (1967) last night on TCM.

Very well acted movie; Peter Sellars and Sue Lyon were tremedous.

Oh, but it is! I think I made a longish post here about Secretary when I first watched it, and alright, maybe not most romantic film ever, but I still think it's probably the sweetest movie of the last decade.

On a side note, do you two remember the music playing during the bath scene? I thought that one song fit the scene so perfectly that I had to look up the rest of what Lizzie West has brewed up, and she actually isn't half bad. Plus she's allegedly a huge Cohen geek and has covered I'm Your Man quite nicely, so I instantly took a liking to her.

Watched "Jumper" and "No country for old men" last night.

"Jumper" is just some unsubstantial, wannabe-stylish shit with a few grand pictures and good-looking but talentless actors. Nothing too special imo, but the idea of "Jumping" is really really cool! :D

"No country for old men" had the potential to become one of my absolute favourites after the first and a half hour, but then it just dragged on and on, became boring and seemed like being a 5 hour long movie. I was really disappointed with how it seemed to turn into something like a collection of boring monologues from Tommy Lee Jones. :sleeper:

1408 in dvd has a different ending as that of the movie...anyone know why?

Hmm, I'm not sure. I'd like to see it. I really enjoyed 1408. A lot.

EDIT: Has anyone heard anything about There Will Be Blood? We've got it here at the house and I'm debating if I want to watch that or Walk Hard.
