Yes, Danny Boyle confirmed there will be Trainspotting 2. But we have to wait until 2016. And he wants the same cast too.

That's probably not going to be hard to line up, even though most of them except Ewan have TV shows they're on, but by the time they do Trainspotting 2, hard to say if that'll still be true.

Danny Boyle also has a lot more money now and an Oscar since then.

It'll be cool to revisit the characters in their 40s. I'm sure drugs will still be present, unemployment will hit most of them, and how they're dealing with their problems now.

Its on the table as of today. Welsh actually wrote a sequel so it will be easy. It might have been called Porno.

Freaky Deaky. Be cool on acid.

Yeah, the sequel Welsh wrote(Porno) is actually a sequel to the movie adaptation because in the book Renton doesn't leave Spud his share of the drug money.

It's set 10 years later so it would work with the same actors. Boyle said a while back that he was waiting on the actors to age visibly enough to play the characters.

Tom Cruise gets better as he ages

To me, every thing Cruise has been in is solid except for the Mission Impossible series. Could never get into them for some reason.

Magnolia is a personal fav

I've seen the other three. IV is by far the best.

Magnolia is a personal fav

The first film drips with DePalma's style which I dig, but the movie as a whole isn't quite great. The second was awesome when I was 12 and saw it in theaters, but is all style and quite silly in retrospect.

The third and fourth, though, are great entertainments. Four got terrific reviews from critics and strong box office, but I actually prefer the third due to its character development/emotional core: Ethan's wife is at stake so that's his driving force behind his actions. (I've never understood why it underperformed as much as it did, but I do think it was "cool" to hate on Cruise right around the time it came out, as he was in the midst of his couch-jumping.) It also benefitted from a superb villain, which was the fourth film's biggest weakness. Both have individually awesome action sequences -- for me, the bridge attack in MI:3 is severely underrated, and the tower scaling in MI:4 was great as well, and quite impressively staged. I'm really hoping the fifth film continues the franchise's winning streak.

I did enjoy 4 more than 3, but otherwise I agree 100%. One is a decent spy thriller. Two I've never liked. Three and four is where it's at. I loved 3 and couldn't believe it underperformed compared to the second, as I thought it was a far better film. Great action, good enough plot to keep you entertained, and like you said, I liked the hook where his wife was an emotional factor into all of it. 4 was damn good too.

I think the beginning (err, ending, I guess, too!) when Cruise is strapped to the chair being interrogated by PSH is some of the best acting he's ever done. Hoffman was such a menacing villain without being too over-the-top or scenery-chewing. I think the fourth film had a good actor for its villain but they didn't really do anything with him. I think those films are only as good as their villains, and while IV was still great entertainment, I would have enjoyed it more if Ethan had a more worthy foe.

Agreed on both Cruise's acting and Hoffman as a villain. Definite strong points of the third. I can see what you mean with the weaker villain in IV, but from a pure enjoyment perspective, I liked the film better. It's pretty close though, as I'm a big fan of the series in general (minus the second one, which I struggle to get through without becoming bored).

I actually like II better than the first one. I got the first three films on BD for 10 bucks so it was a good buy. I wonder if I like II better because of Thandie Newton?

Making a list of movies I want to see this year but probably will never get around to most of them

Star Trek Into Darkness

Oblivion

After Earth

Man of Steel

Elysium

Ender's Game

Love Clint Eastwood and Gran Torino was phenomenally good. In fact, it was probably one of the last really good films I've seen. That was a few years ago now.

I just watched The Paperboy, with Matthew McConnaughy, Nicole Kidman and Zac Efron. It was OK. Nothing to get excited about.
