He always maintained that Stevie was a full member on the 1988 tour and not just a touring replacement. We still don't even know what Slade's contract is because apparently legalities prevented them from kicking out Phil entirely, but Slade is still considered a full member and appeared in band photos/videos right away. Hell, they even let Bob Richards do a few photos with the band when he filled in on drums for the first two ROB music videos. The minor exception was when Cliff's tech filled in on bass for four shows in 1991. For all intents and purposes, Axl is the current vocalist for the tour so he's being promoted accordingly by AC/DC and that includes photos. Some of the persistent grievances about Axl that many GN'R fans have had, have been his (supposed) 'dictatorial' behavior in the past, lack of interest in publicity, lack of appreciation for bluesy hard rock, lack of interest in putting out new music, not catering to fan sentiment etc. This stint with AC/DC just has to give him a different perspective on so many things. Even as a big Axl fan who has been content to let the man just do his own thing at his own pace, I am very excited at the possibility that all of this will push Axl out of his comfort zone and give him an appreciation for the way things are done differently with a band like AC/DC. This could end up having a big influence on Axl (and by extension, GN'R), even if you take into account the changed circumstances around Slash and Duff rejoining GN'R. Even for the gloom and doom-ers who think that his voice is going to be shot, leave aside your pessimism and just look at all the long term effects this could have. Axl is going to have a direct look at how a band that does things really differently operates. AC/DC's press, tour and publicity machines are huge. They are led by their lead guitarist. They have a mammoth international fan base that is a fair way bigger and demographically deeper than GN'R. Even if some (or many) of the fans don't accept Axl, the AC/DC way is bound to rub off on him. While they haven't exactly been prolific, Acca Dacca have been much better at releasing music (okay, not all of it has been at their best level), touring, doing publicity, interviews, doing press, etc. than GN'R. I have really, really wanted to hear the rest of what Axl has in the CD vault (with or without Slash's input). But, maybe this will push him to do some hard, bluesy Rock N' Roll with Slash, that they both can work in agreement on. There seem to be so many potential upsides to this, that as a GN'R fan, you'd be have to be blind or willingly put on a blindfold to ignore them. Popular Post Asia Posted May 5, 2016 Popular Post Share Posted May 5, 2016 It's incredible how some people have gotten stubborn beyond reason to see how great Axl/DC is for GNR and refuse even to notice the obvious: that Axl didn't bother to make one photo, not to mention a photoshoot, with the reunited band before or during the tour, that he didn't bother to sit down with Slash in front of the camera to say even one sentence, that he never bothered to speak even once about how excited he was to be doing the GNR reunion gigs - NOTHING!!!! He never even made one proper tweet about this. Not when it was announced, not right before these shows happened, not while they were happening and not once after. But as soon as he got with AC/DC he is suddenly all over the place and getting photographed with Angus. What band are you people fans of? Because if by chance this band is GNR then let me tell you something - your beloved singer has just given you a clear sign that he doesn't give a shit about the band that you just spent your thousands of dollars to see and he makes sure he'll show it as ostensibly as he can. We're in the middle of the first Guns tour in 23 years and we don't even know if it is permanent, if there are any plans for music being released or if it's just a one-off, we don't know if Axl is happy about it or not, if he has any serious plans...
