Brandon is SO good with lyrics.

I always listen closely to lyrics, being a musician myself,

and try and figure out the meanings of the songs.

So far my favorite songs lyrically are Jilted and Playing with fire.

They're genius.

The bridge of Jilted is my faaavorite.

"You did a fine job of hiding

that crooked ace up your sleep

you double down my direction

you kiss me on the cheek and leave

i followed you through darkness

i followed you through the cold

but woman i can tell you one thing

you're gonna wish you could back and fold"

KILLS ME (see what I did there..). GIVES ME CHILLS.

My favorite lines from Playing With Fire:

"That road outside that you've been taking home forever

that'll be the same road that i take when i depart

Those charcoaled veins that hold this chosen land together

may twist and turn but somewhere deep there is a heart"

Sooooooo goooooood.

"Rollin' river of truth

can you spare me a sip

the holy fountain of youth

has been reduced to a drip"

Mmmmm. Tell me those aren't great lyrics.

EDIT:

Also the drummer from the Killers Ronnie will be coming out with solo material.

Yes, these two are my fav atm.

There's something so endearing about the lyrics on this album. Brandon's so willing to bare his soul, and it's such an innocent, romantic, nostalgic and optimistic soul. The stripped back nature of the music on the album also puts his voice and his words at the forefront, which I love.

Playing With Fire

Jilted Lovers

Only The Young

Hard Enough...

... all glorious.

Still digesting the rest of the album.

 you brandon.

Love this verse:

Perhaps this calling is the channel of invention

I will not blush if others see it as a crime

However dangerous the road, however distant

These things won't compromise the will of the design

Ten thousand Demons hammer down at every footstep

Ten thousand Angels rush the wind against my back

This church of mine may not be recognised by steeple

That doesn't mean that I will walk without a God

Didn't really enjoy this album that much. It's definitely a step up from Day & Age which kinda sucked (imo) and a move "back" towards the sound of Sam's Town, which is exactly the direction I want him and The Killers to continue in. The problem is just that the songs here aren't as good as on Sam's Town (and there's absolutely nothing on here that's even close to When You Were Young). There's a couple of good songs on here though, and the arrangements are pretty nice, but overall the album just leaves me with a "meh, this was nice" feel, and no real will to listen to it more...here's hoping that the next Killers album is better.
