Gordon Comstock
Kid Rock will release his 8th studio album, “Born Free,” on November 16th via Atlantic Records. The record was produced by Rick Rubin and mixed by Greg Fidelman. The first single from the album will be, appropriately, “Born Free” which hits radio September 14th. “Born Free” is in many ways a transformational album for Kid Rock. While there is still the edge, wit, and swagger of previous albums, he doesn’t rap, there’s no metal – there isn’t even a parental warning sticker. Says Kid Rock, “The catalyst for this record was Detroit, and my thoughts on the world through the lens of Detroit. Watching everything go downhill over the past few years, the economy, the loss of jobs everywhere, I wanted to make a record that reflected the times but that still had soul.”The bulk of the album was recorded live in a two week span in Los Angeles with a stellar cast of musicians including Heartbreaker Benmont Tench, Red Hot Chili Pepper Chad Smith, David Hidalgo from Los Lobos and Chavez guitarist Matt Sweeney. Studios in Detroit, Nashville and Atlanta were used to incorporate collaborations with Bob Seger, Sheryl Crow, Zac Brown, Trace Adkins, and in a pairing surely never to be replicated – T.I. and Martina McBride on the track “Care.” Kid Rock and Rick Rubin, as friends, have spent many hours talking about their respective histories – starting in hip-hop, crossing into and creating new territories – as well as the need for a great new American classic rock record that challenges the field. “Born Free” is in part the result of those conversations – an album that is meant to be played from start to finish.Kid Rock’s last album “Rock ‘N Roll Jesus,” released in 2007, debuted at #1 and stayed in the charts for 100 weeks, becoming the biggest selling Rock album of 2008. His hit single “All Summer Long” hit #1 in 8 countries and provided Kid Rock the opportunity to expand his huge touring base outside of America. Kid Rock has a unique ability to genre-hop, marking his territory everywhere. He hosted last years CMT Awards (whose ratings rose 19% over the previous year) and performed at events ranging from the Grammy’s to the VMA’s,EMA’s and CMA’s to the Hip Hop Honors. He has performed for and visited troops overseas numerous times, and remains one of entertainments most vocal supporters of our soldiers abroad. In the past year he has entered into a unique partnership with Jim Beam, while at the same time expanding his philanthropic efforts through his own Kid Rock Foundation. The appearances scheduled to promote “Born Free” will be revealed shortly, in addition to tour activitiesBORN FREE Live at CMA Music FestPersonally, I'm pretty excited for this record, and I know there's a few people on here who like him.I know he gets a lot of shit, but really, he's an awesome performer.I get the feeling this is gonna be similar to his Self-Titled record, but he gets better with every record, so I've got high hopes for this one. Ghostie
I'd bet that this is the Seeger colab. considering it sounds just like one of his tunes, and Kid is mimicking his style. I'll give it five yawns.
AbominableHoman
Why didn't Kidrock go the way of Limp Bizkit? Oh that's right, he found a market with hillbillies and white trash weekend warriors. Hmmm. I need a hit, what should I conjure up? I lack talent, I have no real band, so how about I rip off some famous riffs, mix them up, and wax poetic about events I probably never incurred as a suburban shithead from detroit. Explicious!
I saw Kid Rock open for Aerosmith at the Hollywood Bowl several years ago. They both sucked. The Toys album was a great work, no disrespect, but I would have been just fine if they'd not recorded a future album.I can't imagine Kid Rock's niche audience. I guess I'm out of the loop. Why didn't Kidrock go the way of Limp Bizkit? Oh that's right, he found a market with hillbillies and white trash weekend warriors. Hmmm. What is this? Stupid media propoganda. He;s the drug-free role-model-father rockin and rollin. Look at that rock'n'roll! I saw Kid Rock open for Aerosmith at the Hollywood Bowl several years ago. Spoon87
I quite liked some songs off Rock N Roll Jesus, so I think I'm going to check out this one, too. He's always good for some easy-listening feelgood tunes.
The Glow Inc.
I can't believe I used to love this guy.I mean, Devil Without A Cause was a brilliant album and he was giving briliant performances. Definitely the most talented rap-metal act back then. And then it turned to hillbilly-right-wing-country-pop-rock and no hip hop at all...Pimp rock is dead, long live pimp rock. J Dog
I like Kid Rock and everything, but this sounds like he's falling into the Nashville b.s. I was hoping if hes going to roll with more of the southern rock/country thing he would kick Nashville's ass, not fall in line with them. Hoping the album isnt all like this. And for the ones talking about why he slowed down on the rap/metal thing, if he were still doing that you would be talking trash about why he hasn't changed and how rap/metal died out 10 yrs ago (ex: see your Limp Bizkit reference). Estranged Reality
This guy is inexplicably promoting Jim Beam right now, as if he's some southern icon. How quickly people forgot "Bawitdaba."

Gordon Comstock
I love how if you listen to Kid Rock, you're white trash. i know, it's pretty absurd.he puts on a KILLER live show.he gets a lot of shit, for being 'unoriginal', but the majority of his material is quite good, imo. lookin' forward to this one... LightningBolt
I'm not getting the hate. The song in the OP isn't the most imaginative in the world, it's actually unoriginal, but it isn't that bad in my opinion. And the album with "Cowboy" (I think it's called Devil Without a Cause) is actually darned good.
tat2d1
Hard to believe I saw this dude at bar in St.Louis for $10 in 98. I never thought then that he'd end up so popular. I don't like any of his newer stuff, and this song just sounds too repetitive too me.

He is one of the best performers around that's for sure. The guy can play anything on the stage.I'm not hooked on this song like I have been with some of his other stuff, but I'm sure the album itself will be awesome. Allen8R
This song sounds great and I really can't wait for this album to come out. I just laugh at people who try and shit all over kid rock..At this point in his career, there isn't much he hasn't done and not many musicians he hasn't performed with or gave a nod to. His shows are incredible and so his his talent and versitility.A8R

Spoon87
I'm always gonna respect Kid Roc for this song alone: To me this song means a lot & is simply beautiful. To others it might be some cheesy ballad. I don't care.

That album its on, Cocky, is underrated imo. It has some great rap flavor like Devil, but he mixes the whole country/rock thing great. Estranged Reality
Jeam Beam music...is that so bad?I love Jim Beam. I just think it's amusing that he started out as a Detroit hip-hop/rock guy, with the dreads and Snoop Dogg dress code, and now he's reinvented himself as a country star.I dunno, I've just never been a fan beyond a single here or there. Estranged Reality
I'ma let you finish but David Bowie is one of the best at doing that of all time. Reinventing aside I just don't really like his music and that has nothing to do with how he dresses. It's just me.
