When did you first become a GN'R fan?

I liked Queen back in the day when I was 15-16 years old.... I was checking out the Freddy Mercury tribute concert. Axl was fucking amazing in that concert... that must have been one of his best performances ever, especially in Bohemian Rhapsody, he owned the +100 thousands that were at Wembley. That's how I got into Guns N' Roses.

1995, got a shitty CD player (good one at the time) for my 13th bday, along with AFD and Bon Jovis crossroads.

BIG MISTAKE!!! thanks mum

Then memories of chilling with my first girlfriend listening to UYI2 over and over a coupla years later, great times.

When i was 16 or 17 id normally be out partying with my mates and always come home and pass out to estranged on repeat.

Mum knows every part of Estranged to this day. :rofl-lol:

When I saw this shit live on MTV. Blew me away.

<mtv vma's 88 jungle>

i think it would have been very special to be at the right age during this time.... thats why a lot of old school fans are so bitter, they feel the new folk 'just dont understand, and thats true (to an extent)

my ah-ha moment was a bit like the 88 performance actually, just 15 years later. it was 03', i was 17-18, knew the big songs, saw/loved RIRiii, decided to look in depth. downloaded my michelle and from the very first riff, it was like a religious experience. this was a time when good charlotte's girls and boys was a radio hit.

to go from this

to my michelle....

it took about 30 seconds for legit to be redefined.

i immediately made a mix cd and my favorite song was, hands down, oh my god. from the very beginnings i was really into the new direction. 5 years later shacklers revenge would become my favorite guns n roses song and buckethead my favorite guns n' roses member.

For me that would be June 6, 1985

^ I give you the award for specificity - awesome, do tell!

For me, it was 1988. I cannot recall if it was MTV or radio where I first heard Sweet Child of Mine, but the year I'm sure of. It was the year/summer my aunt and cousin were killed in a tornado. The lyric "her hair reminds me of a warm safe place where I as a child would hide - and pray for the thunder and the rain to quietly pass me by" resonated strongly. I managed to get an Appetite for Destruction tape and was hooked.

Those events could possibly be why I keep my hair long and have an irrational fear of space junk.....but it is DEFINITELY when I first became a fan.

.....and this ends my self psycho evaluation of the day :tongue2:

For me its hard to tell. For whatever reason when the illusions albums were about to come out I was a rabid fan. I cant remember exactly when i bought my first album but i do remember dancing around with a bandana on my head trying to sing patience when i was in grade school so probably 1990.

Back then MTV showed videos of the Appetite songs and most people didnlt know that the songs were three years old at the time at least people my age.

I also remember watching november rain endlessly on rotation after the albums came out, but i guess i really wasn't there at the beginning.

THAN!!!!

I remember it so good, I was totally in shock! Loved it!!!!

I was 15 years old, totally loved the music, my teenage hormons loved Slash, my parents hated it and that helped too.

Almost 23 years later, still love it. Still listen almost daily to their music. Also love newGnr, but probably it never will be as much as the old.

(oh yeah, and my hormons settled down concerning Slash  )

When MTV played their show at The Roxy on Headbangers Ball way back in 86 or 87; I forget which though I guess it was 87 I got AFD the next day and wore that shit out to the point I've bought that album on cassette at least 6 times b/c of cassette damage :rofl-lol:

Same day for me, think it was 87, great show better sound!!

I was about 13 when i first heard a GnR song...I was watching TV,a music channel, and they played Sweet child o'mine.I was so surprised.I had never heard something like that before,so i ran to my neighbour, who is a Gnr fan,and told her about what i had discovered. She told me more about the band, about their songs,i listened to them, and fall in love with the band. For me it doesn't really matter which are the members of the band,if there is Axl. :D

I found my oldest brother videotape of the paris pay per view from 1992 (didn't know it was that show at the time but have learned that since), I watched it once when i was like, i dunno 5-6-7-8 years old and i just knew that i had just seen the coolest band ever, even though i couldn't remember any specific songs, axl just sucked me in, I also noticed that guitarist with just a head of hair and a big top hat. I didn't know axl's or slash's name or even the bands name, but it was so friggin cool, i didn't find the tape ever again, figuring some friend of his had borrowed it or he had recorded porn on the tape instead.. i didn't forget about them, i just didn't look more into it, at least not actively, i sometimes searched in his box of CDs to find cool music (mostly to look at te album covers), and of course he had appetite, UYIs,, Lies, and TSI but i never listned to 'em, didn't know how to play em.. my brother played knockin on heavens door all the time, didn't know it was the same band, 'cause i didn't see them, to me at that age it could just as well be red hot chili peppers or nirvana since he played them all the time too

anyway, fast forward to around 03 probably, we got VH1 and GNR came on, and i was like "holy shit, this is that band, that band from when i was a kid!" later on the greatest hits was released and my mother bought it and i've been a diehard since

I was about 7.

I had heard You Could Be Mine and was completely sold. I had that on vinyl single and literally played it to death.

Then I think my first cd was use your illusion 1, then 2, then appetite for destruction (I was still very young).

By eight/nine years old I was hooked on Metallica as well after hearing Enter Sandman, and it snowballed from there onto AC/DC and Iron Maiden.

My musical taste has changed so many times, but I listen to almost everything now.
