With all this commotion about Axl's voice , rain etc. , did any of you notice pieces of the ballad of death in a new rythm . Kind of like a bosanova . I thought it is a nice change , but from an amateur guitar player's perspective it's easier to play the old one .

Thoughts ?

I thought it was really good...the whole band sounded good on that ballad!! Dj rocked it!

I thought it was good and I got a lot of respect for Dj for making an effort to do something differently. All in all RIR IV made me start to appreciate him.

i know it's a new song but i also heard pieces of 'ballad of death' on it

DJ has his own style ... you always know when it's a DJ's composition ... look for his instrumental work ... DJ has a way of composing and playing ... unique

If you really wanna go there (again) Slash didn't write the Godfather theme, DJ wrote Ti Amor. Not that it matters or is in any relevant in this thread so let's drop it.

DJ delievered a great new solo at RIR, he played something new he had written for the occasion, he as the only member of the band, delivered something new and still it's not good enough for some people.

If the band had played new songs at RIR I bet that wouldn't have been good enough either, I can just imagine the bitching over how the songs would never be hits, how that guitar solo was weak, how Axl's voice is awful in that song etc etc. Some people always will find something to bitch about.

DJ wrote and played a great solo, don't like it well too fucking bad cause he's probably gonna be playing it for the rest of the tour!

Looks like this band could create some pretty good music together. Although, I have a feeling the only thing holding this band back is Axl Rose. No preparations, no recording, no rehearsals, no promotion..

Yep. This.

Dude's got a hot-shit band, no doubt.

It's a real shame to squander that kind of talent.

Godfather theme has been trampled on and kicked under the rug.

but why bring it up in the first place?

Second place, check the posts above...

btw, here it is (recorded from TV)

Have to admit, that was good. These hired hands, when they play their solo stuff (this includes Buckethead, and Robin Finck) it always sounds so much better than their efforts to cover GN'R material.

DJ, Fortus and Bumblefoot were great at this gig. In fact, although Axl wasn't at his best, I think the band sounded fantastic. And this new DJ solo spot was killer.

Good point. I love Axl, but should he ever decide to retire or whatever. These guys should stick together (not as GN'R), there's an incredible amount of talent in this band.

As much shit as I've gave Ashba in the past, he really did bring some great stuff to the show. First of all that solo, even if it was a little too similar to The Godfather theme at parts for its own good, was pretty damn good. He put quite a bit of emotion into it, and it was great to see him actually bring new to the table. I'm looking at you Bumblefoot....... (J/K The Pink Panther was and still is amazing, it'd just be nice to see what he would come up with). He also improved on a lot of songs, giving some of the best renditions he did on the songs. But there were 3 problems:

1. The Guitar Tone: I don't know, something about it just rubbed me the wrong way. Whenever he took the spotlight on the older material, it just sounded wrong to me, but I would get used to it pretty fast.

2. This I Love: He still can't play the damn thing right. At least he is trying still.....

3. Mistakes In Songs: Everybody made them during the performance, his were just a little more noticable, and yeah I'll forgive him for that. Not going to hold that against him really.

...4. He's still not Finck :xmasssanta:
