Powerage5
Purple is my favorite. Not a single weak song on there. Every album is worth picking up, even No. 4 is pretty decent.

batman007
Saw them open up for Aero years ago. Great band live! I prefer him in STP over VR. And I am down with OPP.

Towelie
Their last self-titled album was pretty solid 70s inspired pop/rock.
Chinaski
Purple is a monster. One of my favourite records ever. The live DVD that came with Thankyou is one of the few bonuses on a greatest hits ever that actually made it worth buying when you already had the album. st0n3r
They opened for Aerosmith two years ago or so. I didnt like then very much. Edited February 15, 2012 by st0n3r

What am I looking at in terms of b-sides and the like? Most of their B-sides were either live or different mixes/versions of album tracks. They also did a fair few covers. Most of them are worth finding, I'll make a more comprehensive list of whats worth it tomorrow.
Superfuzz
Core > Tiny Music > Purple > No. 4 > Shangri laI'd go in that order, imo. I never listened to their new album, so I can't judge that.
drtydane
New albums terrible. I think tiny music is their most creative. All kinds of different influences. From start to finish, its an incredible album.

From start to finish, its an incredible album.New album seems to be love/hate. No one ever says its just okay. I love it personally. I can't deny that Tiny Music is the most creative, but it's not necessarily my favorite. There's some songs I absolutely love; Seven Caged Tigers (My favorite STP song), Trippin' Adhesive, Art School Girl...there's others I'm indifferent on. If I had to rank the STP albums best to worst, for me it'd be:PurpleShangri-La Dee DaCoreStone Temple PilotsTiny MusicNo. 4That said, I think Tiny Music and No. 4 are still really solid albums, both are definitely worth buying still. IMO, STP has had one of the most consistently great careers of any band ever.

Powerage5
Shangrila second? You crazy? No, I love that album. There's a ton of underrated classics on it.
Superfuzz
It made them sound so painfully generic, though. Days of the Week? C'mon. Sounds like something Smashmouth would do. I agree, there are underrated songs on there, but not enough to make it a good album, imo. Bi-Polar Bear is great, though.

WhazUp
I love Purple and Tiny Music. I would probably say just go in order, it's intresting to hear how with each album they get more and more experimental. The new album isn't nearly up to par with the other albums IMO but there are a few cool songs on it

What am I looking at in terms of b-sides and the like?Yeah, going in chronological order is a good idea. It's cool to see how they evolved from being a fairly straight forward alternative band into incorporating a wide range of influences.EDIT: Whoa, looks like I mirrored what WhazUp said. And I also agree with him on the new album too, it wasn't up to snuff. Didn't really sound much like STP. Powerage5
Just realized I never ended up making that list of B-sides, etc. that are out there. I'll put an asterisk next to anything I think is worth having:- Plush (Unplushed) - Core+2 (This is just the normal, Japanese version of Core) *- Sex Type Thing (Swing Type Version) - Core+2 *- Wicked Garden (Live) - Sex Type Thing CD single- Sin (Live) - Sex Type Thing CD single- Dead & Bloated - Sex Type Thing CD single- Sex Type Thing - Sex Type Thing CD single- Plush (Radio edit) - Plush CD single- Sex Type Thing (Live on The Word) - Plush CD single- Creep (Radio edit) - Creep CD single- Creep (New radio version) - Creep CD single (Identical to the album version, but the vocals in the second verse are how Scott sings the song live. I love his melody on this version personally) *- Plush (Headbanger's Ball, take 1) - Plush CD promo (Same session as the acoustic version on Thank You, but alternate take w/ the unabridged song) *- Andy Warhol (MTV Unplugged) - Purple+1 (Japanese Purple) *- Vasoline (Live) - Interstate Love Song CD single- Interstate Love Song (Live) - Interstate Love Song CD single *- Crackerman (MTV Unplugged) - Vasoline CD single- Dancing Days - Dancing Days CD promo *- Dancing Days (Radio edit) - Dancing Days CD promo- Meatplow (Live) - Tiny Music+1- Sex & Violence (Live) - Sour Girl CD single- Sour Girl (Live) - Sour Girl CD single (Really cool acoustic version) *- Down (Live) - Down CD single- Break On Through - Stoned Immaculate: A Tribute To The Doors *- Revolution - Revolution CD single *- Down (Live) - Days Of The Week CD single (Different than the version on the Down single)- Big Empty (Live) - Days Of The Week CD single *- Trippin' On A Hole In A Paper Heart (Live) - Hollywood Bitch CD single- All In The Suit That You Wear - Thank You *- Plush (Acoustic) - Thank You *- Long Way Home (Live) - Thank You+1- Samba Nova - Stone Temple Pilots (Deluxe edition)- Vasoline (Live) - Stone Temple Pilots (Deluxe edition)- Between The Lines (Live) - Stone Temple Pilots (Deluxe edition)- Hickory Dichotomy (Live) - Stone Temple Pilots (Deluxe edition)I think I'm missing a few still too. They have a absolutely massive amount of supplemental songs for a band that's only got 6 albums...

That, as well as Samba Nova and 3 others, was cut from Shangri-La Dee Da, and they're pretty readily available on the internet. The album versions are identical to the circulating versions online.
