Introduced by Green Day? I like that, awesome band!

Wished though that Axl would show up! As he mentioned before he does not really seem to care, but it should be for the fans!!

I think Axl will definitly take part of this:

If he still hates slash the ways slash thinks he does, he would never ever want slash to accept an award as someone representing gnr (which was also the reason he sued the guitar hero makers)

If he is now cool with slash he will attend anyway.

A fan writes an open letter in the LA times about the Hall Of Fame. A short (Dec 2011) interview with Axl afterwards.

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/music_blog/2012/04/guns-n-roses-rock-hall-fans-pen-open-letter.html

Yesterday an email landed in the inbox from die-hard Guns N' Roses fan Chris Gehrt, who sent it to a number of media outlets in hopes of it reaching the eyeballs of one Axl Rose. Pushing for a reunion of the original members during the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Cleveland, which takes place April 14, Gehrt and other fans are admirably blunt in the missive. "This letter is for the original lineup of the band Guns N' Roses. Our reunion hopes are dwindling and nobody seems to be doing anything about it. Please post this or forward this letter on."

Here's the letter, in its entirety (with a cuss word excised and misspellings left intact).

Dear Guns N Roses,

On Saturday April 14th 2012 you will be inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. This gave a great hope to every GNR fan on the planet for a one time reunion show. Our one and only chance to see the original lineup on stage together again, if only for five minutes. Something we've been told for years would never happen. Rumors swirled, the band denied, and the fans prayed. It will always be okay because you never promised us anything.

With less than 2 weeks before the induction, the fans are watching as our reunion hopes start to disappear like Marty McFly's family in a polaroid picture. Each day it seems like there is some new story about how there has been no communication, nobody knows what is required of them, nobody's talking, and nobody really seems to care.

We care.

It would be easy for you to just show up, accept the induction, spend a few awkward minutes together at a podium and not talk again until somebody's funeral. But this time we need more.

We are not trying to be selfish, God knows you have given us plenty of legendary songs, spectacular shows, and classic rock moments. You are sincerely the best rock band in the history of the world. All of your solo efforts and reincarnations of the group are awesome too. But I know even the current members of GNR would love to see you guys on stage one more time.

Your music has inspired billions of people. Each one of you is still a fan inside. You loved Elton John, Aerosmith, Queen, Kiss, The Misfits, ELO and more. Please remember how great it feels to see your favorite band play.

We beg you to pick up the phone, grab your instruments, drag Izzy to Cleveland and play together.

You can make music history. Please do it. Give us one more memory. We deserve it.

We will continue to support you no matter what, but at the end of each concert Axl tells the crowd to "Not take ... from anyone." And that means ANYONE!

Sincerely,

Worldwide Guns N Roses Fans.

Indeed, the induction ceremony is less than two weeks away, and it seems increasingly unlikely that anything will happen onstage among the five original members of the band.

When I sat down with Rose in December, I asked him about the potential for a reunion. Here's what he said:

"Well, look, there was talk about this -- Jann [Wenner ] was excited about it 11 years ago. So I was pretty sure he wanted it, because he was very excited in -- when did I do the Elton John thing, was that '93 or '94? He was excited then. And he’s always been a fan. And at the same time, to me Rolling Stone has done some of the worst damage ever.

"I’ve got mixed emotions about what the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame actually really is, but at the same time, there’s a lot of people -- the fans -- that it just means something to them, and they’re happy. It’s like you won the Heisman or something. I’ve had people of all ages. In Indiana, I hadn’t been there in 18 years, and you’ve got elderly TSA guys, 100 pounds overweight, come up, and they’re happy. So I don’t want to take that away from them."

Then Rose made a comparison.

"I think about it in terms of Marlon Brando getting up at the Academy Awards and talking about Indians ... or when Michael Moore got up at the Academy Awards and said whatever about George Bush. People don’t want that associated with their awards shows, even if you have a big audience. In one way it might be right, but it usually backfires on whoever does it. So I really don’t want to spoil it for everybody else -- and take the beating. [Laughs and curses Jann Wenner.]"

When it was noted that induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was a mixed blessing, because it entombs an artist in a virtual mausoleum, Rose added: "It’s a lot of people making money. Why do they get to decide? But it’s the same with Grammys, or Academy Awards. Who wins? It’s like, ‘Marty’ wins and ‘On the Waterfront’ doesn’t?'"

Granted, this was four months ago, but when asked flat out what the plan was, Rose added this: "We’re still busy with this lineup. We’re gonna be busy. We’re gonna be busy all next year. We’ll be putting out new stuff as soon as we can figure out what our deal is with labels, blah blah blah."

There's your answer. We have a call into Rose's people to see if he's willing to update the news; we will keep you posted.

I genuinely cannot wait for this bullshit debacle to be over and done with

Your comment is pretty interesting to me. Why does everything GnR do have to be a debacle? Why cant they simply say what is going to happen? Why cant Duff pick up the phone and ask Axl how he's feeling about preforming? To me this is all very trivial, play and celebrate the past and embrace the future. The new band has never gotten a lot of press and the HOF would be a great way to piggyback into some positive press. Duff always says nice things about the current members, what if Slash started to?

If there is not going to be a performance than just come out and say so. I hate to say it because I love Axl and think he's a brilliant singer but sometime he paints himself into a corner and makes himself look bad whether it is his fault or not.

amateurish nonsense. can't believe they signed it as from "worldwide guns n' roses fans." :rofl-lol: If that letter is supposed to represent me, as a fan... I'm embarrassed to be a fan now.

besides the grammar issues and horrid writing style, they really took the wrong approach methinks. personally, instead of plyaing the "fans-want-a-reunion card," i would have played the "you-need-to-mend-your-relationships-for-the-fans card."

This is what you get when teenagers speak for the entire GNR fan commujity.

Axl didn't even know if Robin was still in the band after Chidem came out. He is so far out of the loop it is not funny. I don't even think the band has real contact with him outside of touring... Even Tracii Guns said he has to go through Del James to speak with Axl.

i would like to take this opportunity to remove myself from the GnR fans of which he speaks, I am quite happy to have GnR, Slash, VR, Loaded and Izzy and the JuJu Hounds. 5 bands that i enjoy; over the one.

I also understand that people who hate each other working together probably wouldnt work out too well, and really i prefere the current GnR anyway

Axl hasn't said whether or not he's going, he's just avoiding the media spectacle part of it, and I don't blame him. Even if Slash, Duff, Matt, and Steven have things to promote, they should have told the media they weren't going to answer Rock Hall questions, and just that they're happy they're appreciated by the fans and peers in music that get to vote on it. And just keep saying the same thing over and over every time a Rock Hall question came up.

I doubt Axl's paying much attention to it, because it's just going to discourage him from even getting on the plane... but it's like Rock in Rio- he knows he has to commit to it, because it does give him good publicity for the current lineup and upcoming shows. Don't be surprised if he thanks them in his speech.

Once they're there, then they'll prob. discuss playing or not playing.

I'm sure there will be a lot of phone calls, texts, and emails over this next week.

And as we know, no one talks directly to Axl except for a few people. I'm sure he'll text and call friends and family, but it's prob. when he feels like reaching out to them. If people need to get a hold of him, they know how to do it.

But you know what? Van Halen and Pink Floyd didn't show up at the Rock hall together. Just because all of them don't show up doesn't mean it can never happen in the future. If they don't play, doesn't mean one night they can't decide to book the Troubadour for a surprise show and just have a fun night out on stage.

They know they can get a retirement nest egg with a reunion tour, but make enough money not have to deal with each other. Sometimes that piece of mind is worth more than buckets of cash. It would have to be a good charity for them to agree to just show up and do it, and have to be in the same place for 2-3 days for it to happen. Doesn't have to be LA, could be Vegas, Seattle or Indianapolis.

I just think if they wait, they'll be too old to pull it off.

Why do we deserve it? Do we deserve a led.zeppelin tour? Pink floyd?

I think most people like having resolution, happy endings, and all that.

What would a band be without a fanbase? Not just talking about people who go to the shows now, but the small group of supporters in the beginning, that helped them out along the way and never asked for anything once they made it big? Just happy to see them make it?

If you wrote a book and there was an award waiting, but your ex-wife was there, would you not go?

Think about when the Hurt Locker won the Oscars. Kathryn Bigelow's ex-husband's James Cameron, who was up for "Avatar". She even gave him a hug and kiss when she went up to get the award. I'm sure they were less than thrilled seeing each other there, but they have history and respect. It was her time, she got her due, and I'm sure he mentored her professionally. What is Jennifer Aniston supposed to do with Angelina Jolie on stage 10 feet from her, storm out?

There's a lot of estranged couples at award ceremonies that have deeper dislike for each other, but they put it aside for the night. I don't think Axl and Slash have the deep rooted shit going on the way a married couple would.

I mean, what if the Brant kids were front row at a GNR concert..would he have them removed because he'd have flashbacks to when they were kids? If Erin's at the show and he knows she's there, could he go on with a concert? Just saying, there's prob. people from his past he's going to run into sooner or later.

To me, Azoff at the Rock Hall would bother Axl more than Slash or Adler would. I think everything that Slash and Axl have said in public is over and done with. There's no ongoing feud.

I'm sure Axl's just avoiding all things reunion right now. He'll either put out a statement that he's not going this week, or just put something cryptic out on Twitter about it.
