Just too many events that are races and such. Oh boy, we get to watch people run fast, exciting. Or swim fast. Yay. I guess the things I prefer to watch are the sports as opposed to just the athletics. I don't know if I am making up this definition or not, but I would characterize a sport as an athletic event where there is some sort of a game involved, and strategy to be executed, as opposed to athletics, where it's about just how fast and/or good form/mechanics.
