MGM says there's "no rush" for a negotiation deal and that they're happy to do 3-4 year gaps between all future Bond films. Are they trying to kill the franchise? Fuck MGM. Bye Daniel. :(

I could live with 3 years, but 4 is pushing it.

Stil, if we lose Craig because of more business mumbo jumbo, fuck MGM.

It really is. Three seems okay but there's a big difference with four years. That's only two films in a decade. How they sustain both the franchise and a new actor in the role with that?

If we find out this year that we've lost Craig because of this, the thread title will once again be changed to something more appropriate.

I'm currently on my layover in Shanghai en route to Tokyo. I watched the Chinese censored version of SPECTRE on the flight here from JFK. There were about 9 minutes of footage cut, thought you guys might be interested to hear about the changes:

- The helicopter fight in Mexico City was severely shortened - Bond kicks Sciarro out on the first barrel roll and the pilot on the very next maneuver.

- General censoring of swearing, along the lines of the shitty dubs you get in tv versions of some movies; "shit" replaced with "shoot", etc. My two favorites were when Q injects Bond with the nano blood Bond exclaims "Christmas!", and when M is in Tokyo and talking to Q on the phone he tells Q he is in "dire straits" if he can't say Bond's location

- The post-coital scene with Monica Bellucci is re-edited; no Monica in lingerie :(

- No eye-gouging by Hinx

- One of the bigger ones - they left out the scene altogether where C informs M that Nine Eyes passed following the Cape Town attacks.

- The train fight is cut down

- No happy ending - the film ends with Bond and Swann walking off the bridge into the distance while M arrests Blofeld

There may have been some smaller ones I didn't catch too.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/05/19/daniel-craig-is-done-playing-james-bond---but-will-tom-hiddlesto/

Daniel Craig, the actor who has played

James Bond for four films, has reportedly told studio bosses he is "done" with the role.

The 48-year-old is said to have turned turn a £68million offer from MGM studio to return as the British Secret Service agent for two more films.

Craig, who last year said he would rather "slash my wrists" than agree to another Bond film, told bosses it "just wasn't what he wanted" despite bosses throwing "huge amounts of money at him", a source said.

It comes after a bookmaker suspended betting on who will be named the next 007 after a large bet was placed on British actor Tom Hiddleston taking on the role.

Craig, who has played Bond since 2005, has helped secure more than £2billion in box office revenues.

He is reported to have been paid a total of £38million for the films in the franchise he has starred in - Spectre, Skyfall, Quantum of Solace and Casino Royale.

Craig has now turned down an offer to return for two more films in a £68million deal that would have included endorsements, profit shares, and a co-producing role, an LA film source told the Daily Mail.

"Daniel is done - pure and simple - he told top brass at MGM after Spectre," the source said.  "They threw huge amounts of money at him, but it just wasn't what he wanted.

"He had told people after shooting that this would be his final outing, but the film company still felt he could come around after Spectre if he was offered a money deal."

After his comment that he would rather "slash my wrists" than agree to another Bond role, Craig later said he would agree to it "for the money".

But the source said that a knee injury he suffered during filming for a scene in Spectre had helped him decide that "it was a journey with an ending".

Meanwhile, a flurry of bets have tipped Hiddleston - the star of The Night Manager - to replace Craig, making him the 2-1 favourite. After a particularly big gamble, his odds plummeted to 1-2 and Coral suspended betting.

Earlier this week, Hiddleston was reportedly spotted meeting with Bond movie director Sam Mendes and producer Barbara Broccoli.

Luther star Idris Elba and Homeland actor Damian Lewis had been frontrunners for the job in previous months.

Elba was priced at 9-1 and Lewis at 14-1 before betting was suspended. Poldark star Aidan Turner had 3-1 odds and Mad Max: Fury Road actor Tom Hardy was at 4-1.

They should probably let the franchise rest for a few years and plan his replacement adequately.

Bond - like Doctor Who - seems to scare actors away. None of them manage the long haul with any semblance of contentment except Moore; Connery of course was a reluctant passenger on You Only Live Twice and Diamonds Are Forever.

Y'know what never made sense about James Bond to me.  In the films, everyone seems to know him!  I mean what kind of a spy is that?!?

They are basically cartoon films. The Harry Palmer films were done by Bond's creators as a sort of riposte to this; Saltzman seems to have realised that Bond was a bit ridiculous and wanted to do a more realistic alternative.

And it shows if you ask me.

Tom Hiddlestone is too...Cheshire Catish for me. Fassbender might be good.

Fassbender is too big for the role nowadays. Plus he's already 39 - we'd only get two films out of him if they keep going with the 3-4 year cycle.

Well, Moore was 46 when he took on the role.

Do you think that Fassbender is too big? I don't think that he's been in too much more big stuff than Hiddleston, has he? I must confess that I'm not actually a big fan of the Bond series, but does Hiddlestone strike you as Bond?

I think Hiddlestone will be good. I think he would be the best successor to Craig. Going down that path of Fleming's Bond that started with Dalton, perfected by Craig and was something Brosnan hoped to do but it was the 90's. Hiddlestone has the makings of the best Bond yet and as a Craig fan I am reluctant to say this. But I think he's the best choice.

How to get Craig back for one more:

1) MGM needs to get their shit together. Lawsuits, finances, delays, strikes, etc... have all affected the Craig era. Find a competent distributor, hire a decent set of writers, and get back to doing films every two years. Take a look at Marvel!

2) Focus on story and less on the fifty locations and stunts. The less physical stuff Craig has to do, the better. That'll also help shorten the shooting schedule. He'll find it more appealing. There wasn't any ultra globe hopping in Casino Royale or Skyfall and look how well those turned out! The early Bond films exploited locations, whereas SPECTRE merely teased them.

3) Send a couple Brinks trucks to his house right now.

Seriously though, my first two points stand regardless of the actor.

The biggest shame if Craig is gone for good is the "what could have been" had we got a fifth film or had the SPECTRE rights been sorted out sooner. I think a new actor will definitely find a shorter shooting schedule and less action appealing which seemed to be the main problem Craig had with SPECTRE. I guess none of that really matters with the three/four year crap though.

Fuck MGM.

The only Bond actor who I feel did not get pissed off with being Bond was Moore.

I don't remember Pierce Brosnan or Timothy Dalton pissed off about playing James Bond, even though with Dalton it ties into another "Fuck MGM" thing going on at the time and Brosnan got the gig.
