The "Better music video" - what happened?

So the closest NuGNR has come in it's almost 20 years of operation to a single music video is Better. A music video that felt like it was almost coming out, but then it never did show up did it?

Talking about the only music video this band has even tried to put together only to have it fall off the radar also serves as a kind of commentary of the state of affairs of this band-thing here.

When GNR was the biggest player of the rock game, music videos were one of the biggest things ever. The music video game has changed a bit with the disgraceful position MTV took on them, but nevertheless they are equally as important today as they were in 1991. Maybe even more so. the tricky part is, there ain't any multimillion dollar videos coming out no more, you gotta figure out to do it on the cheap, but still be competetive in the youtube market.

As for Better, my guess is Axl couldn't stomach the presence of Finck on the video. this is total speculation on my part. Yes he has tried to play the part of the diplomat when it comes to Finck but we know how Axl loves to keep his grudges deep and the flames of hate alive, Finck joining NIN while Axl's "masterpiece" was coming out was a Slash-level betrayal. Axl has always been a man to keep a close eye on the PR of his band, so when his henchmen had to come out and explain that "only finck knows what finck is doing" and some such, that thing had to hurt axl *bad*.

Where is Better? Where is any other music video? Time to talk NuGNR and music videos in 2012. will we see a music video if the dj/bumble as guitarists era produces new music?

Ummm Axl invited Robin to play at the a show in the last year... Slash level betrayal? Please.

the real axl is the kind of guy who doesn't let shit go.

he is still hating on tom zutaut, because the idea of erin everly fucking his manager behind his back, a rumor false rumor that was circulated to him, hurt him so much.

that didn't even happen.

what robin did, actually did happen.

yeah calling it slash-level was kind of overdoing it on my part. nothing can compare with the hate axl has for slash, because slash is probably the only guitarist to ever overshadow a singer as the mascot of a rock n roll band. tragic irony that it had to be guns n roses where that happened . . .

How do you know the terms on which Robin left? It was never announced publicly nor officially. Axl still hates on Zutant because Zutant went public on the inner workings of Chinese Democracy. I'm sure Axl would have loved the revelation about the chicken coop or Bucket watching pornos in the studio. Or how Axl wanted to emulate the drums of Smells Like Teens Spirit. The fact that Axl choose Zutant AFTER their fallout(due to Erin) shows that he was willing to forgive and forget. I highly doubt the Better video was not put out simply because of Robin. Don't forget that Axl said it would be out in a week or so, do you really think that Robin's absence and 'betrayal' made him change his mind within a week?

There was talk of a better video with an animator behind the idea. When 'what's his name with the data stick' mentioned the animators name, it didn't take me long to find his webpage and send him a quick email. To my surprize he mentioned he had been approached to come up with ideas for a video for Better. He used the word 'treatment' which I guess pretty much means the same as 'design'. He said nothing more became of it. That was years ago. My bet is, nothing ever happend with the video. It is probably a safe bet, given how old CD is now, there will never be a video made for any of the songs. If there was, it would be pointless.

When Axl was on The Metal show, he said there were no music videos for any CD songs. So I guess there never was an official video.

I honestly don't blame any rock band for not making videos anymore. No so called video channels play rock videos anymore.

The only way I see rock videos is either online or on time Warner cable on Demand channels.

The video channels don't play videos anymore and if they do it's either pop or hip/hop.

There's no more Headbangers' Ball for rock and metal videos, so I can't blame any rock band for not wanting to invest large sums of money and the videos never get any air time.

Bands still make Music Video's, and I for one am happy they do.

Axl's new Guns N'Roses don't make make music video's. My guess is, Axl needs the money. People assume Axl is rich. Before CD was released, he appeared to have problems paying for things, oil paintings etc.

The Original Guns N'Roses made many videos, and those video's are played on television to this day. On the official New Guns N'Roses Website, Axl's appears to have allowed Original Guns N'Roses to be viewed via the New Guns N'Roses Website.

I don't know the terms on which Robin left of course.

It was never announced or handled in any way, which is why there was an uproar on the forums when he joined with NIN for a tour on the eve of the release of CD.

Axl's henchmen had to crawl out of the woodwork, after the usual deafening silence treatment, and the only thing they could offer was a limpdicked "only robin knows what robin is doing." I take it you remember this? a huge embarrassement to Axl.

The following is just me using my imagination, but I could easily guess that Axl didn't change his mind, but he had someone try to edit together a version of the music video where they would have had all shots containing Robin cut out. They tried hard at it but it turned out that it was too difficult to edit him out of the live material and still have a believable enough piece to put out and call it a music video.

im not saying that is what happened, but sounds plausible to me! will we ever know? maybe after someone dies or just plain comes clean before axl's army of lawyers come around with the silencing treatment.

Or it could be that it doesn't make any sense to finish or release a video for a song when the main writer of that song is no longer in the band.

Jeez could we get some kind of official update about SOMETHING so we quit talking about this type of stuff for the 43rd time---

From what I remember reading the video was mostly just live concert footage so I wonder if it was cheap enough to put together that after a while it became redundant to put out a video for an album no one was talking about anymore. And I suppose the argument can be made that the music video could of jump started the album, but thats asking for too much as the label botched everything about the album release and roll out.

This is what I don't understand. Didn't Axl want to bury old Gn'R?

Told you that did he?

No. But Zutant was turned away from the Chinese Democracy listening parties that went on during launch. He says he was fired due to a miscommunication but then he commented on the workings of the band etc. Even Canter says Axl does not like anyone saying anything about him to the press. But I don't know the specific reason as to the current animosity between Zutant and Axl. Just that Axl forgave him in the late 90's to have him work on Chidem.

Didn't zutuat go on that australian abc show and fired cheap shots at new gnr/bucket a few Years ago?

Fuck that guy

I don't know if he fired cheap shots but he released privy information in regards to the inner band workings and Bucket's salary(was something insane like $50,000 a month).
