Yeah, okay, I can see that. Actually, that seems a bit like my love for seeing space shuttle (RIP) launches. So many people from all over the world, lots of repeat people you get to know, camping out, grilling, having a brew, sharing stories, etc. The actual launch itself is spectacular, but only for a couple minutes. But the day or two of camping out in your prime spot and interacting with the other people is more than half the fun. I guess that's sort of along the same lines. Makes a lot of sense now.

Officially not going to Australia due to inability to secure a placement student teaching, so you can scratch anything down under for me. Paul Di'Anno's US tour was cancelled again so that's out for me as well. Doing an extra week in Europe next Summer though, since I now have about $6,000 freed up because of Australia.

6/29 - Iron Maiden (Singen-Aach, Germany) - maybe

6/30 - Iron Maiden (Dessel, Belgium) - maybe

7/3 - Iron Maiden (Lodz, Poland) - maybe

7/4 - Iron Maiden (Gdansk, Poland) - maybe

7/6 - Iron Maiden (Oberhausen, Germany) - maybe

7/10 - Iron Maiden (Malmo, Sweden)

7/13 - Iron Maiden (Stockholm, Sweden)

7/16 - Iron Maiden (St. Petersburg, Russia)

7/18 - Iron Maiden (Moscow, Russia)

7/20 - Iron Maiden (Helsinki, Finland) - yet to be officially announced

This is in no way a criticism, so don't take it as such, but I just find it amazing that you still really get anything out of these shows. I mean, I've seen some of my favorite bands 3 or 4 times, and by the 4th time it really loses the magic for me. And this is spread over several years, not a week.

Yeah I really don't understand how one can go see a band THAT many times.

Someone asked me for a bit of an explanation sometime earlier this year, and I typed up some really long drawn out response about how I got into it, why I do it, etc. It's in AG if you want to go searching for it, it's it's own topic. But if you want the short version, I really do it because of their fans. Their fans are really like a big family, in that thousands of people do this whole international thing, and no matter where you go in the world, you'll be surrounded by people you know from every country you can imagine. The whole being on the road with all your friends aspect is so much fun - it's difficult to compare it to anything else. It's also a great excuse to go to a country (Hell, even a state) I might never go to otherwise. I love being able to get out and see the world, and being able to see my favorite band and share that experience with some great friends is a great reason to.

In terms of what I see in the band itself that's so attractive, I won't bore you with all the stuff about "they're such good songwriters, they have a great stage show, blah, blah, blah". The thing that really does it for me is you can see them play to 65,000 people, yet the show always still feels intimate. The band still connects with the crowd like they're playing to a couple hundred people in a tiny club, but they still manage to have that larger than life show that allows them to play stadiums and headline any festival - there's absolutely no other band that can pull that off.

It's a very tough thing to explain if you haven't experienced it. The first time I went all out for Maiden I thought it'd be a once in a lifetime thing, seeing them 7 times in one year. Nowadays, I can't imagine doing just one or two gigs. It really becomes a lifestyle; the traveling, the camaraderie, the music - everything about it is just so much fun. I know this type of thing isn't for everybody, but I absolutely love doing it :shrugs:

It's so cool you get to do that. I wish I could travel and see gnr or zep (my two favorite bands) like you do. You seem like a cool dude, powerage. I'm still hoping I get to see maiden at least once lol.

You're in Michigan, right? We'll probably see them in Detroit next tour...just couldn't this year because my band's tour started the same day...I almost missed my hometown Maiden show even! :tongue2:

I love that! I think that's amazing and it speaks volumes about the power of music to bring people together. Not wanting to 'categorise' people but there's something really tribal about it which goes back to the essence of being human. People have behaved in tribal ways ever since the beginning of humanity and it shows how important it is for people to have things they can relate to.

I'm a huge Tori Amos fan and she has a similar thing going on when she tours. Some fans have seen in excess of 150 shows and they all get to know each other. I think it's brilliant.

it is such a great feeling being with a crowd of people that share the same love of music as yourself. it is like you know some of these people your whole life, i know it sounds weird but it is true just look at this crowd

I'm gonna watch Letz Zep tonight (probably the best Led Zeppelin tribute band). ^_^

Springsteen three times at Friends Arena in Stockholm. rock3

:max: No confirmed dates in Spain yet. I check out his website everyday but I'm getting nervous! I don't think he comes to Europe and doesn't come to Spain.

Just locked in Deftones. So now I got two shows back to back in March (Coheed and Cambria on the 11th, Deftones on the 12th).

Saw them in 2009, wish they were coming around here, I'd love to see them again. They were great! I don't really like their albums but live they're a totally different beast, have you seen 'em before?

Yeah, once before in May 2011. They played a really wicked set list last time and I'm really pumped to see them again.

Got tickets for Meursault, Richard Hawley, Frightened Rabbit twice, Sigur Ros, Foals, Johnny Marr, Roddy Woomble, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Black Crowes, The Stone Roses + Primal Scream, Bruce Springsteen.

Been setting aside ticket cash for ages. Going to be a year for the books.

The rumor currently is that MAYHEM FESTIVAL this year will consist of, amongst others, Rob Zombie, Deftones, Lamb of God, Children of Bodom, and Amon Amarth. I'm not sure if I wanna see this yet, I'm hoping Foxy Shazam announces some summer dates. If they do, I'll see them and then hold off, hopefully Guns do a fall/winter tour. I'd like to travel somewhere I haven't been yet to see Guns...

Saw Uli Jon Roth last night at the Rockpile. Amazing tone, and some of the riffs he played just sounded so thick. Excellent. The highlight was In Trance, my favorite Scorpions song.

Had to bail before the end of the show, but I saw most of his set and three other bands. A fun night all around.
