If Don't Cry & YCBM had been on AFD.....

5 posts in this topic

Do you think they would've been even bigger singles? Do you think YCBM would be as well remembered as WTTJ is? Would Don't Cry have been as big as SCOM (SCOM hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and is the band's only #1 single).

Good Question. I've always wondered what YCBM would have sounded like with Adler on drums. I think that could be part of the reason it wasn't. I prefer the Demo Vox of Don't Cry.

I think it would have left a little to be desired of UYI.

I'm surprised an Adler era demo of YCBM never surfaced. Maybe they never rehearsed it with him.

The intro to You Could Be Mine (the first two bars of the song) isn't technically difficult, nor is the repeated drum beat throughout the intro. Adler could have done it, though perhaps it would have sounded a bit "looser" than Matt. I'm not sure it would have had the same intro though. Matt claimed in a recent video where he's demoing an electronic drum kit that originally it started with a kind of punk drum roll into the main repeated beat but then he came up with that intro figure. I thought I read a long time ago that Duff had come up with it, but maybe he meant the main repeated beat (very common drum figure) and Matt added that two bar intro.

Can't really imagine YCBM in '87. The difference between '87 and '91 is pretty dramatic. Times were a-changin'.
