In order of release:

- The Freewheelin

- The Times They Are A Changin

- Bringing It All Back Home

- Highway 61 Revisited

- Blonde On Blonde

- Blood On The Tracks

- Desire

- The Basement Tapes (just phenomenal stuff with The Band!)

- Oh Mercy

- Time Out Of Mind

- Love And Theft

- Modern Times

- Together Through Life

- Tempest

The entire Bootleg Series are fantastic as well! I love volume 4 and volume 8 in particular. But they're all very very good!

I've always felt Nashville Skyline is a bit underrated as well. Nice album!

How come Desire is not even in your top 10? To me it's by far his best album, followed by Blood on the tracks.

The songs are good (although neither one is particular standout to me) but I hate the voice he uses on that album. Besides, I decided to stop at ten. There are others I like.

I nominate Blonde on Blonde for the most overrated.

:o

An album that includes Visions Of Johanna and Just Like A Woman simply cannot be overrated.

There isn't a bad song on there! I mean... One Of Us Must Know, Leopard Skin Pillbox Hat, I Want You, Stuck Inside Of Mobile... Those are all absolute masterpieces imo.

To be honest all the ones i've heard are fuckin' A+ albums, can't fuck with any of em though i haven't ventured far past John Wesley Harding, i liked Nashville Skyline having heard it once through and i've heard one of other of his albums straight through and thought it was a good solid album which was New Morning. I think i might've heard Blood on the Tracks one through too but generally speaking from debut to John Wesley Harding are my area of expertise when it comes to Dylan and they are all fuckin' fantastic :) Sounds like high praise for such a load of albums but they seriously are.

I think his debut don't get enough love.

I think it's kinda bad to be honest. Sad Eyed Lady is the only really good song, and even that I'd say doesn't break Dylan's top 20 songs, not by a long shot; Stuck Inside... and Visions are decent too, and a 3-4 others are passable but the rest of the album is crap.

My problem with Blonde on Blonde is that Rainy Day Women borderlines on a novelty song, but it should be listened to as a whole. It's one you'll eventually like again.

Blood on the Tracks is like reserve wine - you have to let that one sit and age. It's something that resonates at an older age.

Best album overall for me is Hwy 61 Revisited.

I took a liking to the Witmark Demos when they came out.

Surprised no one brought up the Xmas album as their favorite.

Planet Waves is pretty underrated. Basement Tapes is more of a Band album, but love the Complete Basement Tape bootleg.

It's terrible imo. Out of Dylan's more famous songs it's by far the worst.

But it's also one of his most clever songs. Everyone gets the "everyone must get stoned" part, but not what the song's really about. It has some of the "Hwy 61 Revisited" freewheelin' chaos to it. I just think for the mood of that whole album, it didn't fit in. It was a hit for him, and as Axl said "I want a fuckin' hit" when Bob asked Axl to cover KOHD. Why GNR never did Dylan's 30th is a shame though.

Not trying to derail the topic, but I never "got" Dylan. I don't know if I just can't stand the guy's voice or what, but I'll almost always prefer a cover version of his songs by someone else over the original.

Am I missing something here?

Have you ever listened to one of his newer albums? His voice changed quite a lot as he got older. Give Modern Times or Time Out of Mind a go.

Bob Dylan is the most consistent when recording great albums. He had to write intentionally bad albums to keep people from thinking he is a genius. His works from 1961 to 1969 was phenomenal. I have been collecting his discography over the years and I am almost done. His work from John Wesley Harding and on to Tempest is often overlooked because people just focus on his folk and folk turned rock.

I've been really into Street Legal lately.

AND THERE'S NO TIME TO THINK

Such an underrated record (and song)! I bump that one mainly in fair weather, though. Looking forward to summer. I'll always associate that album with living in NYC in the summer. That tune in particular really speaks to me.

I wish Dylan was on YouTube.

Fun fact: the first time I heard that song I was taking a shit. :D

Changing of the Guards was epic first time hearing it.

New Morning is one of his underrated albums. He just kept things simple and still wrote brilliant songs.

I have been driving to and from work listening nothing but Bob Dylan. All of his studio albums. Been fun. Too bad Dylan has never been released on CD because I have everything but that. I know it is suppose to be his worse album but to be frank, Dylan's worse is the best most artists can do.

Agreed! I think it's not the most coherent album he's made, but I do enjoy it a lot! There's supposed to be a European CD version under a slightly altered title, but I haven't ever come across it.
