I do remember him saying in an interview he didn't like SCOM, because he is not into ballads and that from his point of view the only reedeming factor is the solo. But I don't remember him saying anything about NR.

He admitted it took him a long time to warm up to SCOM because of it's history of being just a warm up exercise for him, but I don't think he ever flat out said he didn't like it. With November Rain and Estranged I think it was more he was fine with doing songs like that but got worried when those became the focus of the band since he wanted to stay more with AFD style hard rock. He just didn't want those types of songs to take over.
