Didn't know it was that tough to get it in the UK. Its not easy to get it in the US, but its certainly possible. I've had it before. In fact I have 3 bottles sitting right next to my desk here. Had a full bottle in about a 2 hour period one time. It's strong stuff... I'll leave it at that.

I went on a liquor store run at school last year, and they had a bottle of Night Train. I had to buy it solely because of GN'R and the song. I knew it'd be awful, but I wanted to be able to say I'd drank Night Train.

I drank maybe two or three swigs. In fact, I offered it to all my roommates, and all our drunken friends when they would come over - I kept the bottle out on the deck in winter for a good month or two and would bring it out whenever guests were over, hoping someone would be drunk and grateful enough to accept it.

No one ever lasted past a sniff or a swig. Threw it all out. It was the worst stuff I've ever had.

edit: i take that back. bankers rum may be worse.

I just can't imagine it's that bad, I mean how bad can cheap wine really be?

I've had it before and I honestly didn't think it tasted that horrible at all. I actually thought it was pretty easy to stomach. Its cheap wine, thats it. Its not like it tastes like acid or anything, and I think people only talk it up to be cool

Its cool to have because of the GNR connection, but its not difficult to drink and it won't get you as smashed as people say unless you drink the entire thing in like 30 minutes. Then again, thats the same with all alcohol. Don't get your hopes up when buying a bottle because its hardly anything special.

I drank a 25 ounce bottle of MD 20/20 Banana Red (I think) and it was the only time I ever couldn't walk straight. I went to a gas station with someone immediately afterwards and fell out of the car as soon as I opened the door. MD 20/20 is typically 13 percent alcohol. The flavoring ingredients in it are what makes you sick, I assume, but DON'T chug a bottle and you should be fine. You will get drunk quickly if you chug it. I didn't throw up, but I wanted to. I drank maybe 10 ounces of 50 percent rum and didn't get staggering drunk. I guess it's the sick feeling along with the drunk feeling that does it when it comes to cheap wine.

I see the Nighttrain in the store every time I go, but I don't get it. It's 17.5 percent and I bet it tastes waaaay worse than MD 20/20. I had Wild Irish Rose, which is 17 percent, and it was gross as fuck.

I think I'll just stick to Margaritaville Paradise Punch (8 percent beer) when I want to chill with friends and semi-expensive liquor when I want to get bold and a little sloppy. Fuck regular tasting beer and fuck wine.

You should buy it once. If only just to show you it isn't nearly as gross as you think its gonna taste. If it was terrible, I wouldn't have been able to drink it and I assure you of that. It tasted almost like grape juice to me, just with a little kick. But its absolutely drinkable and its really not that bad. There's just no reason to drink it regularly. But I think if you're drinking it just once, you'll probably enjoy it and have a good time because its not bad and its this little GNR treat thing. Its a fun little change from a regular drinking night, and totally doable.

God, I sound like I sell the stuff. There's just no reason this myth that it tastes like acid should be out there because its plain not true.

Thank you. Obviously its a cool GNR memorabilia, but the taste has been blown so out of proportion. Its a total myth how bad it is.

The taste is not terrible, not good, but its not terrible. I will say though, it gave me probably the worst hangover I've ever had. Lasted well into the next day and night, didn't feel better until around 1AM, over a full 24 hours after drinking the bottle.

Bought it, tried it, not even HALF as nasty as MD 20/20. It's actually kind of smooth as far as most cheaper wines go. I wouldn't buy it unless I was doing a competition to see who would go the longest without throwing up, though. :) I bet if I drank half of it I'd be sick as fuck, though. Like I was saying, it isn't so much the alcohol with this stuff as it is the other ingredients. CHugging an MD 20/20 was the worst feeling in the world the next day.

I think there are a lot more factors of that though that are more general to alcohol than just Nightrain. You said you drank the whole thing within a two hour period. If you drank anything within a two hour period of the amount that you had the Nightrain you're going to feel pretty sick. And then combine that with Nightrain particularly being a cheap wine to begin with then you're not going to have a pleasant day afterwards. Not saying that Nightrain won't give you a terrible hangover, but I'd say you need to try the experiment with other stuff to comparable levels to actually single that one out. If you were to have a full bottle of regular wine in a two hour period you'll most likely feel more sick later on after the initial drunkness. Just saying that I had the entire bottle over the span of a night (probably 4-5 hours) once and I don't think I felt much drunker than I've been on other wines and general alcohol and also didn't feel that sick, at least not to the level you were at. I probably felt it a bit at 3 or 4 am, but thats true of most alcohol and once I woke up the next morning I was back to normal. I'd venture to say that GNR probably wasn't drinking the whole thing in two hours back then, and if they were a guess their bodies were too fucked up by the time for it to have the same effects as it would on you and me.

And Amish, it was cool to see you bought some and didn't think it was too bad. I agree with you, there's no actual reason to buy it unless for a specific purpose, but the taste was one of the better ones for a cheap wine as you pointed out. I never understood why everyone thought the taste in particular was the ridiculous part because thats simply not true. And I'm happy thats not the case, because then you can at least buy a bottle or two to show off to people because of the GNR connection and its not like you'll never be able to drink them and you are stuck with them. If you drink them at appropriate levels you'll get through it just as fast as you do with the normal alcohol you probably buy.

Well two things: I notoriously get bad hang overs no matter how much water I drink. And, I can drink a pint of scotch in same time period and be completely fine the next day. Roughly half the amount of liquid, but double the alcohol %. So... yeah Nightrain was worse. No doubt that the alcohol in it is partially causing it, but I think there are some other unknown (the company that makes it has not released the formula for obvious reasons) ingredients that caused my hangover to be worse than usual.
