On Tuesday I'm headed to Edinburgh to study for the spring semester, so I'll be there until at least late May.

Graeme, ARQ, whoever else is from Scotland even if we've never spoken, meet up at some point?

Yes? Excellent, see you there.

We can try

I'm away for 4 weeks out of the next 5 before being stupidly busy until the end of April at least, and on January 24th Graeme leaves the continent for 4 months :P

Ah, christ.

We'll see I guess.

I want to go somewhere this summer. I can budget enough money to go pretty much anywhere I want. Chances are I'll be traveling solo. Any suggestions? Let me pre-empt by saying I have no interest in Thai brothels.

I've read Chernobyl is a really nice place.

I would be legitimately excited to go to Chernobyl.

Kind of toying with the idea of going to Norway for a few days for my birthday. Found round trip flights for $350 from JFK.

That's crazy cheap. Book it!

I would really love to - but preferably not be eaten.

Edit: Places I've been include Prague, Paris, Vienna, Florence, Rome, Dresden, lol Canada

If you're traveling solo - backpacking it and hostels is the way to go, imo....I did it when I graduated college throughout Europe, using the Euro Rail to go from country to country....one of the best experiences of my life.

You could do the other side of Europe - Fly into the U.K....take the train to Belgium....to Amsterdam.....then hit a few Scandinavian Countries....maybe go down to Germany then over to Spain...and fly out of there....

Fuck that shit Magisme, I think you are past the backpacking student trip. You want to hit up places like Krakow and Prague and stay in an apartment not some dingy hostel. You can rent insane places for a few nights at dirt cheap prices compared to hotels. If you are on the pull it is the only way to go and never tell any local girls that you are in town to sightsee or any of that bullshit. You are on business. If you are asked what you do for a living - "It's complicated."

You'll be up to your neck in quality pussy, not some skank backpacker who is looking to find herself. I'll link some high end apartments later.

AirBNB.com is great for apartments. I'm staying in a great place right now in Budapest for stupid cheap.

Take pictures.

Hah, sure, I actually haven't taken many yet apart from those pics of the Hungarian edition of Reckless Road. Went to Rudas Baths on Friday night at midnight a couple of weeks ago, place was packed. Friday and Saturday night is the only time those baths are mixed sex, so I was surrounded by couples making out in a very small area. Awkward. Pools and saunas and steam rooms were great, though. Opening scene of Red Heat with Schwarzenegger was shot there. Will check out Gellert Baths this week.

Backpacking is awesome....I'm 37 and I'd do it again if I get the chance....and he's already been to Prague....

On a side note - Budapest does have some of the most beautiful women I have ever seen. (As a whole).

Seen some hot women out and about in Budapest, but nowhere near the hottest I've ever seen. That'd go to Serbia

Brazil for booties and France because hearing French women speak French is like porn for me

Sicily had beautiful women and the place itself was beautiful, too, one of my favourite places. Went Jan 2010 I think, went to Palermo, Catania, Siracusa, Taormina and Agrigento, all lovely places.

Yeah but if you are not a broke student there is no need to backpack. Why bum it when you can live like a king for a month in a high end apartment in krakow or similar? Shit you could do Krakow, Bratislava and Budapest for relatively cheap and not stay in some shithole hostel.

This is where I'm staying in Budapest, don't have to pay bills, location is great: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/1259782?s=ksfk

Since I'm in Berlin for just 3 nights, I'll be CouchSurfing. You have to send a lot of requests, I don't think I got an acceptance until my 13th request, but you get to stay somewhere for free and also have someone to show you around when they have the time. Haven't done it in years, used to do it around France.

I think it's about the experience....and there's a lot of decent hostels out there too...some of them comparable to basic hotel rooms....and I think the people you meet make it half the fun!

Sorry, KK, but Fackicker is speaking my language here. I did the backpacking thing after college and it was great, but I'm looking for something a bit more sophisticated this time around. I'm a decade older, I have some money, I have nice clothes ()......time to do it right.

So I lived in Prague for a year but as a relatively broke kid just out of college. I wouldn't mind going back, but I'd like to try something different. Honestly, Athens is right at the top of my list. Bummed out that it's such a terrible time to go. I like the Krakow idea.

Barcelona is great, especially if you're travelling in your own. It's very social, a lot if young people and the historical aspect is amazing too. Not to mention that San Sebastien is really close by. Good times to be had in both places!
