robin2002 Posted February 21, 2014 Share Posted February 21, 2014 They'll obviously play the hits (WTTJ, SCOM, Patience etc), the covers (Live & let Die, Knockin') so with them realistically I'd like to see more ChiDem songs than AC/DC/Neil Young covers, add Going Down and at least 2 new/unreleased songs, I have no preference on which ones as I haven't heard them and we only have names to judge them on. Move things around and add some fresh (haven't been played in years fresh) songs, like pretty tied up, yesterdays, move to the city (would be great as they love to jam), dead horse. One or two new songs sprinkled in as well, no point playing 10 new songs when nobody knows them or can listen to them outside of the live arena or on a shitty youtube clip. If new material is to claim a good space in the set, release it first. When I saw GnR in 2006, they played a good few new songs, I had no idea what songs they were I kinda liked them but I would have preferred to hear material that I was familiar with new or old. I have no interest in hearing Silkworms, unless it's been totally rewritten, I have no interest in hearing Oh my god unless it's been totally rewritten... both songs were dark days for GnR... and I hope to dear god there's not any more of that to come. Paradise CityThink that gives a good balance of the hits, songs off CD (which are well received and not too difficult to sing) plus 3 new songs. In fact really, the only changes I've really made is cutting out the abundance of covers from the last tour and replacing them with new songs (Don't Let It Bring You Down, Motivation and The Seeker).Only reservation I have is it does get a little slow in the middle what with a number of ballads and solos. But I think people have to appreciate that in this day and age that it's important Axl gets some rest in the sets. Personally, what I would LOVE to see (but will never happen) is they bring back Double Talkin' Jive and they use it effectively to do a 3 guitar solo off in replace of one rest so Axl gets a break whilst Fortus/DJ/Bumble each play a part of the outro solo. I think this is something that New Guns have always missed a trick in doing more of (cf Bumble's solo being Don't Cry, until Axl comes back). Think concerts would get much less criticism for being sluggish at points if they used techniques like this to incorporate Axl's rests into the setlist, rather than them sticking out like a sore thumb.So an ideal (but still semi-realistic) setlist:1.
