You mean the selective, here and there rasp in 2010, every other verse of a song?

Here and there 2010?

He didn't have his voice back in 2010. There were spurts in songs and verses, and various gigs, but Axl has never fully regained the rasp in his voice and I think it's impossible to rebuild that.

I'm not a specialist but you're wrong imo.

I honestly think the very best we can hope for is that he'll sound like he did on the 2011 tour. His clean voice was a lot more "mickey" but the rasp was stronger. Strong rasp/Mickey combo > Decent clean voice/minimal rasp.

I expect him to sound like he's sounded for the last 2 years though.

edit: @ Forsaken, I dunno if you're tired of people claiming 2010 was the holy grail or something in terms of Axl's voice, yea 2010 is overrated, but he was on fucking fire for the vast majority of that year. If anything was 'here and there' it was weak shows, definitely not the other way around. His voiced cracked fairly often in 09 and early 10, I guess he was still trying to get a handle on some of the CD songs, but by South America... Axl Rose was back.

Rasp generally able to be controlled by a trained singer. As are rattle voice, attack on the glottis, and changing the focal point. Unless he has surgery for nodes, which has been speculated, he should be able to employ these tactics at will. Timing is also important. The beginning of a three hour set, I always sound "cleaner" than the last hour. Later in the show, the rasp is easier to obtain. Perhaps if they were more selective in putting the set list together, it would showcase the different vocals in a better light. Putting softer songs and songs that don't require the rasp at the beginning would help. 100% rasp is difficult for anyone whose voice is not naturally that way. Rod Stewart, for example, has a very raspy speaking voice. It is just the nature of his voice. Naturally, all his vocals are a bit smoky. Axl has a very smooth speaking voice so it stands to reason that his rasp is actually used at will. It would be very hard to push his rasp consistently through every song and he would likely end up hurting himself.

Blah, I guess i'm being to critical. I'll give you that. 2010 was one of the better years he's had. I guess I've seen so many performances since 02 that it is kind of hard not to be. Credit where credit is due, he sounded good in 2010.

I think he has problems with his throat

0:59 he nearly broke his lungs

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20ccfjD4ZyQ

there are others videos that you can see him suffering pain in his throat while singing i remember one in Las vegas, and another one but im not sure where.

here:

I really love you all.Thats it! in first scream of welcome to the jungle he made signs that something hurts him i m really sure that he is suffering of something since maybe 2011,but what?

I've assumed for a while now that they still open with Chinese because it's relatively easy for Axl to sing, and that's why his lower register songs (Easy, Brownstone) are at the start of the show (Jungle being the exception)...

I think it also had to do with him having something to prove. In 2006 he had to prove himself and did. In 2010, after CD "flopped", he did.

But what does he have to prove now?

2010 was his best year vocally since the 90s.
