Singer Adam Lambert, who gained fame when he appeared on “American Idol,” will join the classic rock band, Queen, in a North American tour this summer, Lambert and original band members Brian May and Roger Taylor announced today in an appearance on “Good Morning America.”

“Queen is the quintessential rock band of all time…they’ve influenced bands for years,” Lambert said today in a live appearance on “GMA,” adding that it’s a dream come true “to be able to bring [these songs] to life on stage” with the band.

The legendary British band has performed with Lambert on a number of occasions in recent years, both in the U.S. and overseas, but the band has never actually toured with the former “American Idol” finalist in North America.

Queen first teamed up with Lambert in 2009 to perform the band’s rock anthem “We Are the Champions” on “Idol’s” season’s eight finale. Kris Allen won that season, and Lambert was the runner-up.

Lambert and Queen teamed up again in 2011 at the MTV European Music Awards in Belfast, and in the summer of 2012 they performed across Europe, as well as in Russia, Ukraine and Poland. They also had three sold-out shows at London’s Hammersmith Apollo.

Since Lambert’s appearance on “Idol,” he has released two albums and toured the world.

His debut album, “For Your Entertainment,” earned him a Grammy Award nomination for best male pop vocal performance, and his second, “Trespassing,” debuted at the top of the Billboard chart.

The upcoming 19-date North American tour will feature original Queen band members Brian May and Roger Taylor, and kicks off June 19 at the United Center in Chicago. The tour will take May, Taylor and Lambert to cities including New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, Vancouver, Montreal and Las Vegas.

The tour will wrap July 20 in Washington, D.C., at the Merriweather Post Pavilion.

“Come see us, it’s going to be amazing,” Lambert said on “GMA.” An “Amazing summer tour.”

Queen’s frontman, the iconic Freddie Mercury, died in 1991 of complications from to AIDS. The band’s bassist, John Deacon – who wrote a number of the band’s many hit songs, including “I Want to Break Free” and the worldwide chart-topper, “Another One Bites the Dust” – has retired from music.

The tour is presented by Live Nation. Tickets will be on sale beginning Friday, March 14 through the Live Nation mobile app and at Livenation.com.

Only date listed so far on TM is Saskatoon, on June 23. No ticket prices yet. I'll edit dates into the OP as they show up.

Right on. I'm very interested in prices and of course a Detroit date.

Is this some sort of joke?

Nope:

Nope:

See, he sings like a pro karaoke guy and that's alright, but he's like a moving statue working for coins, he's got cement filled shoes.

he's not cocaine enough to front Queen.

I'll rather see a Brian May Band or with SAS or with Roger only switching vocals to this.

In all honesty, I might consider the final date in DC.

I watched a couple of videos and he's pretty good. Fits more into Queen "Freddie"-wise than PR did, in my opinion.

People might deny it, but I think most won't/don't take it seriously because it's Adam Lambert.

I don't mind the fact that he comes from a reality show. I just think he's not rock n roll enough for Queen. But he's a big name in the US, allows to sell more tickets and gives some interest in ppl who are not into music.

My wife seems iffy on it because the Detroit date falls on our anniversary, but I'm certain I can convince her it's a good idea :)

Ha! That isn't the best timing. Chicago isn't too far of a drive, though

If I can find tickets for under 40-50 bucks, I'll hit the DC gig. Q+PR is hands down one of the 4 or 5 best shows I have ever seen. Better than the Stones, better than Pearl Jam, on par with GNR. The tickets were pretty pricey and the (small) stadium was pretty empty (lower bowl was 4/5 full, upper deck probably 2/3 empty). Hoping they'll drop ticket prices this time around. Not in a position to spend much, but I would totally catch this one on the cheap

Agreed on Q+PR, they were fantastic. Even though Paul Rodgers is one of my favorite singers, I'm equally excited by Queen + Adam Lambert :)

Most expensive tickets look to be about $130-150 depending on the gig. Pretty sure I'm gonna do Toronto and NYC, maybe Philly too.

Definitely hitting the Dallas show. Last time Queen toured North America they didn't even hit Texas.

Heard it announced on the radio this morning and texted my best friend right away. He managed to see Q+PR in Arizona in 2006.

Glad to see most people are looking forward to it. Hard to say if it'll be something that'll happen often - I doubt it.

Well it's been eight years since they toured North America.
