Apparently in his neighborhood in Seatle there were many kids named Michael. With Slash, it was the father of a friend of him who came up with it because he would be moving fast from place to place kinda none stop. This took place long before GN´R. That´s according to their biography books. Slash said that once he decided to be called Slash only his grandmother kept calling him Saul.Axl, he was still Billy when he arrived in L.A. and he was still Billy when he was on Rapid Fire. Or at least his band mates there at the time called him Billy when off the stage. At that time he would allow people to call him Billy. So I guess the change begun, in an official way, when he was in Hollywood Rose.
