The Dress Thread

That woman is not made for clothes.

We agree way too often!

I am not going to disagree on that. This should always be her red carpet style:

But even with a dress on, she looks better than those thin models without the slightest form. A woman always looks better in feminine clothes when they actually look like women. My 2 cents.

Sorry, as beautiful as she is, she has a muffin top. I feel like her briefs/bottoms need to be much more substantial given how high her waist is. There's literally inches between her waist and the tops of her........um.........'bikini'.

She's actually right. The fact that I'm a heterosexual male means that it is of absolutely no importance to me, I'm merrily drowning in an ocean of cleavage everytime i look at the picture but she's still right, from a clothes-putter-togetherer persons perspective. People like Red are supposed to see things with a view to asthetic perfection in terms of an outfit, not personal arousal

dem child bearing hips

See, Lith' sees it.

That's not my point. The thing is, many many women wish they looked like that. Oh look, she has a very very little defect, I'm gonna put all my attention on that. Sounds bitter.

From a clothes perspective, I don't think an i-pad shape over two sticks actually compliment a dress. But, as I said, it's just my 2 cents.

But most important, how do I know that you're an heterosexual man? :P

Look, it's like looking at anything where you're like...judging it in an asthetic sense. Say you've got 5 flowers, 1 being knackered and 5 being the perfect bloom and four having like, the very slightest little dots on one of the petals...it don't make you bitter to point that out, if floral appreciation is your forte then you're taught to assess things in that way. It's your job to create dresses or clothes that are perfectly suited to a person. For her to point out the birds hips don't mean she's criticising her hips, its more like criticising the fact that those clothes aren't suited to those hips.

As for your last question, you don't, especially considering the way i prattle on about clothes

So because she works in fashion she is the only one entitled to have an opinion about something as subjective as clothes? Ok. But it still sounded like jealousy.

Anyway, no one criticizes my future wife.

Who said you couldnt have an opinion? You can state your opinion over whether or not you think what shes saying matters but you cant call it inaccurate cuz its just not. Whether some shit fits right on a body shape isn't subjective.

Oh, the old "when did I say that" tactic, yes, I've seen it a few thousands times before. And given that I can have an opinion too, that was my opinion of such comment. And, if it was accurate or not, I don't know, but Kate was modelling on that picture, so some designer, publicist and other people who work in fahsion thought she was good for whatever reason. But hey, probably they are not as good as our fellow poster.

And, still, Kate looks awesome in that picture even if the bikini should be a burqa so her hips don't hurt our retinas.

Edit: Shit, you're definitely gay, aren't you?

OR...they agree with the idea that her beauty would overrule a lot of that stuff because people like myself or yourself would respond to the womans beauty as opposed to the specifics of clothes that only people inclined towards that shit would notice...and it'd've been an accurate assessment too because look how we respond, we think she looks fit as fuck...but again, that doesn't make what Red is saying wrong.

'Ah, i've seen this tactic before!' Pawn up the kings rook and all that!

No and yes at the same time. Because you make clothes for the public, not for yourself. And if a majority of the general people think it's fine, then it's fine. The costumer is always right, isn't it? In fact, most of the fashion "rules" are ridiculous. Those extremely thin models that could be used to teach kids the different bones, because you can see them, do you think that makes a dress show all its potential? Same with some trends such as baggy pants or whatever, they don't flatter most figures out there but they are MADE (and worn by almost everybody). Actually, fuck, most people would have to go naked if we were so picky. And that's why it sounded bitter to me. If I'm wrong, my bad.

Oh, the old "when did I say that" tactic, yes, I've seen it a few thousands times before.

It's just that I've heard this same thing on all the previous discussions I've had. Language accuracy nazis! .lol:

You're not wrong in saying you think it looks good, I agree with you and i didn't notice none of the stuff Red said on first glance and even after she pointed it out to me it didn't make a lot of difference but thats the point, when you are a craftsperson you work to a paradigm of perfection, you notice flaws.

Take a painter and decorator, to the un-trained eye they can do a bodge job and make it look semi-respectable to where someone who ain't in the business probably wouldn't notice...but then a proper painter and decorator can go 'OK, thats wrong, thats wrong and thats wrong', it don't mean to say they are bitter cuz they didn't get the job or they are trying to run down the other decorator or they are being smug, it's just a fact, if it's not right then it's not right.

And, btw, it was a fucking bikini, how is it a bikini supposed to be?! Girls want them tiny so they can get tanned better, don't they? It's not as if it was a very sophisticated suit. And bikinis exhibit all the feautures, good or bad. How should it be a bikini? Really.

Fair enough. But everybody can see the flaws, trust me. Remarking the slightest of them sounds arrogant and ugly.

So anyway, since this is a DRESS thread and there are so many specialists here, I thought I'd give this a try and ask for advice and tips. I need a dress to go to a wedding next month. It's not too posh, so I'm looking for a nice summer dress that I can wear afterwards too. A few pointers: I am quite tall, I do like short dresses, but not too short. I have broad shoulders, so not every neckline suits me. So, can any of you help ?

I need more than this. What prize can it be? What's the colour of your hair?

I have dark, (very) long, straight hair. The prize... around 100 EUR max, I'd say.

Red's comment was anything someone with an interest in fashion would say. I'm not saying everyone should have that detailed an eye, but she wasn't making shit up just to be a bitch. In fact, I've seen the exact same thing said about Kate many other times. I'm sure Red thought what she was saying was relatively commonplace, because in her world it is.

I think the problem arises here, she's not saying the girl has a defect she's saying the clothes do cuz they don't fit her right. Thats not to be taken as a criticism of the person, the whole job here is to make clothes for all people, all shapes and sizes, bespoke clothing to fit 'x' person, if something is designed for someone or they are chosen to model a particular design half the job is picking the right person for the right thing. I mean you ain't gonna have Miley Cyrus modelling Roseanne Barrs drawers, are you?

The fact that she notices this shit suggests that she's good at her job, not that she's a bitch.
