Best Rocket Queen

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for the best newgnr rendition of rocket queen. Especially from "I see you standing..." I love the outro but I've never really heard a great newgnr version. I feel it's one of the sleazy songs they really can't nail.

Chinese Democracy should have either come out in 2002 or 2006 and Axl would have been primed. The follow up to Chinese (all original material from this new band should have come out in 2006 or 2010, depending on when Chinese came out. Axl really could have made a run at this band being legitimate if this happened. I guess its easy to look back at in retrospect. We should be on our 2nd or 3rd post Chinese album by this point. It would make up for Axl not sounding great most years on tour that we at least have new material, and it would make the times he does sound good even sweeter.

If you're a 100% stridency lover, go with 2010. If you want the perfect balance, go 2006.

Honestly, I can never choose.

wowowowow, you read my mind.

these are literally the two greatest versions of the song that have ever been performed since the '90s.

axl's rasp in the '10 version is outstanding during the outro, and the universal ampitheatre gig from '06 is memorable for being a bit more distinctive of the new band.

the way i see it, the new band gave a different edge to some of the older tunes like rocket queen and think about you, partly because of axl's vocal delivery being so different. if you can get past how different he sounds and appreciate it as a different take on the tune, it's pretty cool.

edit: in fact i made a thread about this before, but the outro of rocket queen 2010 from chile posted above is the closest i've ever heard axl sound to his 1990s self in any performance from 2001 onward.

Honestly, I feel like they may be the best performances of all time. 90's Axl was and always will be a god. But there's something to his voice when he's ON in the past 8 years. In 2002 and 2010, when Axl was on, he was in my opinion the best sounding he's ever been. Both the death rasp of '10 and the occasionally cleaner but still raspy in a great balance of '06, were fantastic.

I'm probably rambling. But basically, for consistency, the original band had the best Axl. But when he was at his best in 2006/2010, he was the best he's ever been.

I'd kill to go to a 2010 show. Or a 2006 show. But Chile 2010 was something else, man. It had the fucking best rendition of Shackler's ever done.

That last "I don't believe there's a reason." Shit man, chills.

Fucking hell of a year, man. I gotta say, a lot of people talk about the pro shot UYI tour shows, but we've got a couple of those. There's NO full proshot or soundboard of 2010. That's my fucking holy grail.

Oi! Love both voices! One thing though... Really liked Robin with the band. Even if he dressed kinda weird... Edited by kever20
