We need a cricket thread here

I can only find ashes threads. We need one for the County Championship and the internationals are starting up again. You can also post the 20/20 IPL rubbish in here also, Pieterson and Deli Belly or whatever they are called.

Durham v Yorkshire was tense stuff.

Northants are in a bit of a bad way this year, a lot of injuries already with a small squad. They have tried to sign 3 different overseas players and all 3 deals have fallen through at the last minute. This never happened to me on cricket captain!

He was at Yorkshire but he is now at Notts.

Durham have signed Sangakkara who had a shocker on his debut (a duck and 7). One of the old blokes near me said, ''you are gannin to have to dee better than that'' while getting his autograph haha.

He's a genuine bloke though Sagakkara, not like many cricket mercenaries these days

Yes, he is not in the IPL. I am sure he will fit into the team soon enough. Needs to get used to swing bowling conditions. He should be playing against England also when the tests start up again.

By the way, they have this 'Bash' thing - what the hell is all that about? Durham's twenty20 team have suddely went from being the Dynamos, to the Jets!

In school I was written off into the out field, there I would chat with my friend who was out there talking with me... Then one day this jock/rude boi/one of the cool kids knocks one out and I see it in the air, it's coming down, and I caught it and the runs the jock did counted for nothing because I caught it before it hit the ground and managed to get that jock out... I didn't have enough upper body strength to return the ball back to the game directly, I threw it to a fielder who was closer who threw it back.

Years later after that, I saw another good friend from school and his crew, they were all from Sri Lanka and the people I knew anyway in town believed this bad rep the Sri Lankans got... I didn't care, there was a guy who I went to school with and actually spoke to in school and years later he and his crew were getting stoned too and were cool with me, I would see them, take off with them, pick up and get high somewhere else (in another park through the underground car park/parking lot and up the road a little bit)... Return and play street cricket with them, that was uber cool, and was great to reconnect with my past like that with an old friend who was more 'me'... Basically it's set up your own wickets, cricket bat tennis ball - and we used to play it right there on the paving stones next to that grass area where the gangsters/rude boi/thugs would play the skaters at football/soccer and my stoner crew were all around the benches on the sides with all the bushes outside Croydon College watching, in this one area... I like playing cricket rather than watching it/spectating,

As opposed to baseball which is heterosexual in the extreme, they call it rounders here, they have little kids play it in PE when they ain't got brains enough to understand cricket. There's a message in that somewhere

I have a theory about the prevalence of basketball in America too. They basically took an English public school girls game and made it into a sport for black people to take the piss out of them

baseball is a sport,

to be played on a lawn in fancy clothes

What, lawns like Lords, The Oval, Edgbaston? Pretty big fuckin' lawns man! Face it, baseball is a kids game called rounders that Americans gave a different name so you could be good at something, just like NFL and NBA.

(shhh, don't mention boxing!)

I have no idea what or where those are,

but they're not Fenway, or Wrigley.

how hard can a game be that you hit the ball then run and touch a stick, then back to touch another stick

If you touch the stick you're out young man  The hard bit is dealing with those solid as a rock balls come hurting at you at almost 100 mph and risk cracking your skull open.

You try and pick off balls at 90mph with willow. Firstly, you will not be able to hit one ball - not even with a defensive shot; you will look like a fool and probably end up on your arse and crying like a little girl. Secondly, you will be black and blue and in physical pain. The best batsmen face these deliveries consistently. Equally, it is very hard to bowl that delivery and keep it hitting the same area consistently.

And I have not even mentioned the guile of spin bowling!

I, for my part, despise cricket  It's certainly not easy. And to be fair, baseball looks fucking harder, the fuckin' things round, you must have to hit the shit pretty fuckin' clean for it to do any distance where as with cricket it's easier to make contact although clipping a ball can do you more harm than good sometimes.

The fucking pain on your hands is UNBELIEVABLE, isn't it? And yeah, hitting a spinner good is an art all on it's own, those fuckin' things go everywhere. I used to think hitting spinners was easy when i was young, just sit back and FUUUUUUUUUUUUCKIN' belt it...doesn't work though, the fuckin' thing goes everywhere.

I've always found their (or should i say our?) affection for it odd actually, especially since it was like, a game that they were introduced to by the people that took over their country, you'd think they'd shun it, wouldn't you?

It's kind of an old white mans game, isn't it? The sahibs game, the boys with the big taches and that. Ever notice how all men in India and Pakistan tend to have taches? It's a sign of manhood over there. I have a theory that thats a leave over from the colonialists too, all them old school 19th Century white men with those mammoth taches.
