Dave Kushner Looks Back At Velvet Revolver's Contraband Track By Track 10 Years Later

Nice read! One of my favorite records ever. Shame that the second one wasn't as good.

And also: "We just played it the other day, we were trying out a guy, and we actually had to relearn it." Are they actually still looking for a new singer? If they're not willing to work with Scott again, then they should just get London LeGrand.

A must read if you're a VR fan. Thanks a lot for posting it. That's how you fucking do an interview.

They need to pull an AC/DC lead singer trick. Not gonna be easy. As this interview shows, Scott was a huge part of Contraband and was part of the identity of the band in many ways.

Haha it's cool to see that Duff composed the drum part to Illegal I Song

came in with that main riff. It was a day where Duff and I were the first ones at rehearsal. I wrote it on guitar, and then Duff actually was playing drums. We wrote that song before rehearsal one day, just he and I with him playing drums. So that was really exciting, I think it was the first song I’d written in the band that got used.

Loving the Alien is next level shit. Shame they couldn't develop that more on the next record.

If you wanna hear that type of songs, check out Scott's "poems" on Lethal Injection
(also really cool demos, rarities etc.)

It definitely won't be easy. Scott's personality is what is and he might be difficult to work with, but he was super important to the band and it's success. He was someone who didn't get outshined by Slash (and Duff). Plus he is a really talented songwriter and lyricist. And he's really good with melodies.

Damn, I need to listen to Contraband when I get home. Haven't listened to it in awhile.

Contraband is an album I really like.
It's probably one of the best albums in the world to listen while driving, or while traveling.

Last week I listened to it while traveling in the route. Yeah, that was good shit.

Also, Dave Kushner!! I must be the only one but I really, REALLY like the guy!

Before there was DJ Ashba, there was Dave Kushner.

Who is he again?

Not even close. VR was playing all of contraband before it ever came out and never lived off their past success like new guns do. And Dave never felt the need to imitate anyone like DJ does Edited by jmapelian

Dave, unlike DJ, can actually play. Unlike DJ, he considers himself to be a guitar player.

Contraband was one if the first rock records I got really into, and VR got me into guns n roses.

Rather disturbing.

What a weird/creepy thing to say in response to that  Edited by LiveFromNormal

I was 13 when that record came out, wasn't super into music at that point until flipping channels I saw the slither video and was fascinated by the dude with really long curly hair and Ozzy sunglasses, as well as the creepy skinny as dude wiggling around. Got into it from there. *Kanye Shrug*
