"Guns N' Roses ready to fire off two albums" - The Guardian picks up Revolver Interview

Recommended Posts

Cool to see this on the front page of a mainstream outlet today. It's just the Revolver interview, but I thought it was interesting to see it's getting wider attention:

Guns N' Roses ready to fire off two albums, says Axl Rose
Guns frontman says band have both a follow-up to Chinese Democracy and a remix album prepared for release

Axl Rose claims to have completed two new Guns N' Roses albums. It has taken a mere six years for Rose to complete what he describes as "the second half" of Chinese Democracy – an album that took 15 years from inception to release.

"We recorded a lot of things before Chinese was out," Rose explained in an interview with Revolver. "We've worked more on some of those things and we've written a few new things. But basically, we have what I call kind of the second half of Chinese. That's already recorded."

In addition to a seventh studio LP, Guns N' Roses have also apparently assembled a collection of Chinese Democracy remixes. "That's been done for a while, too," Rose said. It's not clear why the group would have waited to release it: Chinese Democracy came out back in 2008, selling a relatively meagre 3m copies. The album reportedly cost well over $13m (£7.7m) to make.

For the past two weeks, Guns N' Roses have been busy with their residency at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The last of these concerts takes place on Saturday night, and the band will release a 3D concert film on 1 July. "After Vegas, we're going to start looking very seriously at what we're doing in … regard [to albums]," Rose said.

Earlier this month, Rose's former manager Craig Duswalt fuelled speculation that Guns N' Roses could reunite with their founding guitarist, Slash. "Duff is paving the way to open the gates again," Duswalt told ABC News Radio, alluding to bassist Duff McKagan's recent gigs with the band. "We all have a feeling … [a reunion] is gonna happen in the next two years."

Slash and Rose haven't performed together since a gig in Buenos Aires in 1993.

I have little interest in a remix album

If they could get the label to agree to it, wouldn't that see their contractual obligations filled as far as the number of releases they owe UMG?

I honestly have no idea, but it might give them more freedom with regards to recording something fresh, or releasing stuff independently.

I think people are interpreting this the wrong way. Axl said he was going to "seriously" take a lot at what they got. Axl's known exactly what he's had for years now. DJ, 4tus, and Dizzy are saying the same ole same ole.

If we are tp believe deep down in our hearts that CD II and CD Remixed are coming out anytime soon, if at all, we are just setting ourselves up for disappointment.

the number of releases they owe UMG?

And that number is? I haven't been able to get a straight answer out of anybody on that question. Surely it isn't just one more album.

Great to see this getting quite prominent mainstream coverage. I'm really not understanding the pessimism. It just feels like the stars are aligning right now.

I think it's far more likely that we're going to hear new music by the end of 2015 and probably a lot sooner than it is that the band will go on another extensive tour with the South American setlist and a bored Axl.

As for the remix album, This I Love is one of my favourite songs ever but I only listen to 2010 boots of it because the multi-layered, processed album vocals don't work for me. I have played the leaked remix clip of it a bajillion times and am fucking desperate to hear it. On the other hand, some of Evader's stuff sounds better than some of the other remixes but I still want it. Bring it on.

a remix album of a 6 years old record that nobody really cares? smart. i can see this working as a digital release. actually, sharing the remixes online for free would be the smartest idea.

as for a new record... lol. not saying i don't want it, it's just... it's axl.

The label's going to let Axl put out whatever he wants at this stage of the game. Universal controls and administers GNR's body of work so it would be bad for Axl to jump ship until he has the rights to the masters.

Remix album?

NEW ALBUM???

As a GN'R fan, i'll gladly take ANY new material or releases that we haven't gotten yet. Bring it home, Axl.

How would the departure of BBF affect these plans? You'd think he has a mighty tall bargaining position if Axl's intentions aren't misunderstood here and he desires to release new music.

Correct me if i'm wrong but i'd read that the majority of the material had already been recorded... that's what Axl says, at least. If this is the case,BBF leaving (which I doubt will happen) will not hinder this in the slightest I don't believe.

A guns n roses remix album in the US would probably not even come close to selling 500,000 copies. Who would want it? Are there remixes by Skrillex? It may have made a nice little bonus edition to the DVD but on it's own I can't see too many people giving a flying fuck.

Maybe Axl wants to continue pushing CD as seen by the tour, that remix album will be lucky to reach 100,000 copies imo. Forget it, I am an avid newGuns fan but I have zero interest in that, I listen to CD once a month at least too.
