DR DOOM
I'm still in the learning to use all five fingers on both hands at once competently stage, but I have a Roland E09 that has some nice sounds on it, I spend an hour or so cranking the rotary organ most every day.

Really really bad music. I'm not saying they are not talented musicians, but as a whole it's just garbage. Styx has one song (Renegades) that I don't mind, but the rest of their music is like nails on a chalkboard. Rush on the other hand, I don't mind the music, the drummer and guitar players are quite good. But Geddy Lee makes me want to shoot myself in the head though. His voice, his lyrics, his melodies are just really really bad. Every damn song sounds the same. If Rush had a different singer, I would probably like them, but I can't stand Geddy Lee. Worst rock singer ever imo.As for the OP, I like a lot of piano and keyboard music, Billy Joel is the man. But Styx and Rush might be the two worst rock bands ever.... DR DOOM
Fuck you Mike!Nah, I have zero love for either of those two but "any band like those are just nerd music and complete trash" is taking it too far IMO.For example, Uriah Heep (and I'm only talking about the classic, David Byron fronted version) made some awesome songs (like Gypsy, Look At Yourself, Salisbury, Stealin etc etc) and also made some fucking rubbish, a fair bit of it.Therefore any band that is like Uriah Heep is total trash?edit: or a song which has crap vocals or lyrics, but great music? Does that damn said band or artist and all their ilk to hell? lol Edited June 25, 2014 by DR DOOM

Georgy Zhukov
I have to agree, keyboards have been around rock since the very beginning. They were original lead instruments along with the sax that got assraped by the 80's.

Does that damn said band or artist and all their ilk to hell? lolWhoa whoa whoa there Doom, you must be confusing me with the Fantastic Four....I have zero problems with keyboards or piano, I think they add a lot to music. Hell I wish I could find a good keys player for my band. I just don't like Styx and Rush. It's really Bacardi's fault (joke) for starting this thread off with possibly the cheesiest song in the history of rock (Come sail away by Styx). That's what got me going, had we started this thread out with some Doors or any number of great keyboard written songs, I'd be fine. But Styx? Really? But to each their own. I'll be the first to admit that some of my favorite Zeppelin songs are really keyboard heavy; No Quarter, Trampled Underfoot, and Fool in the rain. I love keys. Billy Joel is one of my favorite musicians, and Elton John would be in my top 30 also. Hell some of my favorite Beatles and Lennon solo stuff are keys heavy, Instant Karma anyone???As far as the whole stigma goes "no keyboards in rock," that's some BS Metallica type of thinking. Which that's why I don't really do metal much. They are some of the most judgemental fuck heads of music fans. They just want the first 4 Metallica albums on repeat 24/7. They also want every band to make the same damn shit over and over again, just so they can bang their head, mosh around and think they are cool. I like Metallica (for the most part), but that whole type of mentallity is moronic, I agree with Bacardi about that. I am also a big Van Halen fan (as many of you know). I hate that stupid mentallity "Van Halen started to suck when Eddie started playing the keys." Some of my favorite VH songs have keys also, I'll Wait, Right Now, and Not Enough are just really good fucking rock songs, I don't care what anyone says. But I also like Coldplay. What??? Coldplay??? Yes Coldplay, get out of your little box you metal heads....I just don't like Rush and Styx. It's just my opinion folks, if you like them good for you. I just can't get into them....

Iron MikeyJ
Geddy Lee's lyrics? ....um You know...Sometimes you guys just love to point out the mistakes. I just said I don't like Rush, so why would I know 100% who writes the lyrics. Either way I don't like them. " Todays Tom Sawyer gets by high on you, and the space he invades he gets by on you." What the fuck does that even mean??? Even if it does "mean" something, it's pretty awful lyrics regardless.....
Sixes
Come on Mike, Rush has some genius lyrics!!!!! In the constellation of Cygnus, there lurks a mysterious, invisible force: the black hole of Cygnus X-1...Six Stars of the Northern CrossIn mourning for their sister's lossIn a final flash of gloryNevermore to grace the night...[1]Invisible to telescopic eyeInfinity, the star that would not dieAll who dare to cross her courseAre swallowed by her fearsome forceThrough the voidTo be destroyedOr is there something more?Atomized...at the core?Or through the Astral Door?To soar...[2]I set a course just east of LyraAnd northwest of PegasusFlew into the light of DenebSailed across the Milky WayOn my ship, the 'Rocinante'Wheeling through the galaxiesHeaded for the heart of CygnusHeadlong into mysteryThe x-ray is her siren songMy ship cannot resist her longNearer to my deadly goalUntil the black holeGains control...[3]Spinning, whirlingStill descendingLike a spiral seaUnending...Sound and furyDrown my heartEvery nerveIs torn apart...To be continued...
