AndyM
Just got their new album today - listening to it at work at the moment - not sure what to make of it yet - need a few more listens! The songs I heard live sound better now I've listened to them a few times although not that many really radio friendly songs but I'm sure it will grow on me - as usual!Anyone else listened to it yet? Georgy Zhukov
Won't receive my copy until next week. I could cheat and listen to it online.

wasted
whoops i made a thread above. merge away. It's very reminiscent of Holy Bible and Lifeblood for me.Walk me to the Bridge could be a more obvious ref to Richey if they just said Richey jumped off a bridge.I think they captured the zeitgeist with Let's Go to War.Europa Gehy Durch Mich is very kitschy in the tradition of great pop songs.Next Jet to Moscow is pretty cool song like the older sister to Tokio Skyline.Sex, Power, Love and Money is a like Robert Palmer 80s American Psycho theme tune. I likeee.
wasted
2 more b-sides Anti social Manifesto and Kodawari.Walk to the Bridge is pretty epic single. The whole album is fresh, 80s and off the wall!

The whole album is fresh, 80s and off the wall!Been listening to it all week - not got the b-sides yet though!I really like it - but then I liked Know You Enemy and Lifeblood too!Definitely not a really commercial album - but some really good songs on it - I like Walk Me to the Bridge, Last Jet to Leave Moscow and Europa. Lio
Haven't heard it yet, but there was a short review in the paper yesterday calling it one of the albums of the year, and the reviewer said he was a Manics-sceptic.
wasted
It takes some risks sonically which make it sound fresh, surprisingly catchy but dark and glamorous too.
AndyM
Very different to Rewind the Film - hard to believe they recorded them at the same time!Got the deluxe CD yesterday - so also listened to Blistered Mirrors, Empty Motorcade and The Last Time I Saw Paris - all good which could have made the album! wasted
I didn't see them, they are on the end of the demo disk. The demo versions sort show how they are just like old manics songs but been vamped up in the studio.Empty Motorcade is where it's at.I like Dreaming a City and Mayakovsky, takes it to another dimension. Yes - there are 3 extra tracks on the demo disc.I agree Empty Motorcade is very good as are the instrumentals
wasted
Rewind was called an acoustic album, so I guess this is Manics going full blown again, but it has some electro or kraut rock vibe. The vids for Walk me to the Bridge and Europa Geht Durch Mich (Europe passes through me, I think but is meaningless in german) are okay, Europa is a low budget affair. The Real McCoy
Love me some Manics. Need to get the last two albums.

wasted
What's the verdict. Just another Manics cd?
Georgy Zhukov
I have to be in the mood to listen to it. For me it takes a few listens. I like what I've heard though. I feel the songs on Rewind the Film stand out more but I think I will get some stand outs on my next listen.
wasted
Next Jet to Leave Moscow is like the new Tokyio skyline. Walk to the Bridge at first seemed weird but it's actually a storming song that just explodes. Futorolgy is very catchy opener. Geht Dirch Mich one is a bit repetitive but I imagine its a great driving song. Whole album would be great on the Eurostar. The Bibleness reveals itself eventually. wasted
I've been watching the videos. Not exactly ground breaking but it's nice to get some creative visuals from the band. One is very Run Lola Run, which is overrated movie really but idea is cool. Other one was like Talking Heads video meets Zooropa.
