Bringing guitars on a flight

Recommended Posts

So I leave for Italy in a few days, and I'm desperately trying to figure out how I can bring my acoustic guitar with me. I'm borrowing my cousin's hard shell case, but I'm still worried about how much protection my guitar will have.

Has anyone ever brought their guitar on a flight with them as checked baggage? Any problems? I'm kind of freaking out about it.

Hey! I just took my Les Paul on a flight a few months ago. Here is a fun fact, 90% of the time you can just take the guitar on the flight. Just carry it through baggage check and don't say anything. Chances are it will fit in the overhead bin and if it doesn't, they will usually just check it in the cabin.

It wouldn't fit overhead, I know that for sure. Plus I already have a carry-on and they won't let me bring another.

You would have far better luck shipping it. But that's if you have the money/bringing the guitar is that important to you.

Totally. I would invest the money in the safety of mah babies if you love them.

Ended up buying a new case and wrapping the guitar in bubble wrap. As much as I would have loved to ship it here, it costs way too much, and I would be even more paranoid about where it was and what condition it was in :P
