There's nothing more patronising than to suggest that we all should be grateful and never ever feel an ounce of sadness, frustration or despair in our lives because some people in this world died or suffered in a concentration camp. It's like saying that all women who have never been raped should feel grateful for not having been so. As if that is a position of privilege.

There's no denying that all suffering in this world is a terrible thing and those who do suffer are undeserving, but to suggest that everyone else should feel 'lucky' and just suck it up is a sign of someone severely lacking in any sense of compassion and humanity.
