Since I Don't Have You, Music Video.....

Recommended Posts

I just want to say: the Since I Don't Have You music video is probably one of the all time shitty music videos ever made. What the fuck was Axl thinking? Truly horrid and it has Gary Oldman as a fuckin' clown in it. You get Gary Oldman to guest on your music video, and you dress him up like a fuckin' clown, shitty make up and everything. Whatever.

I agree that it's not a great music video, but I don't think its as bad as Estranged. Estranged, they or should I say Axl, was trying to do something great, but instead did something kinda shitty. While SIDHY on the other hand was more or less just for fun, and I think it achieved that goal.

In a way I sort of view it as the the final chapter in whatever crazy vision Axl had in his mind at the time. Don't Cry, NR, Estranged, then SIDHY. It sort of shows Axl moving on in the video, which is the best thing he could do (but did he move on in real life, or just for the video is my question?) But reguardless, that's how I look at it.

I love the Estranged video, I can acknowledge that there are people that think it's self-indulgent or don't like various elements. But if you really think the SIDHY video is actually better than any other video they ever did, especially Estranged, it may be time to consider an eye transplant.

i remember slash saying he wanted to do a small club gnr tour for tsi

That probably would have kept the band together, at least for a little while longer.

Doubt it, on vh1 behind the music of GNR slash said something about TSI being the sound of the band breaking up right there

No, I think that was Sympathy for the Devil.

I think Axl sounds amazing on this song, but the video is just plain weird.

They must have all been high. Gary Oldman was a cocaine user, so that could explain his part in this video.

And what is it with Axl and water? Does he have a fear of drowning? I can understand that. I don't like water either.

Anyway, I think video shows you how bored GNR were getting with themselves.

Well the video is a bit shit, but the girls in the video... wow! :D

Of all the covers they did on that record that's one song I'd love to hear live, Axl sounds fantastic on that song, I think he could pull that song off these days!

Hey man, it's just my opinion. Are we not allowed to have different opinions anymore? I missed that memo....

For the record I actually like Estranged, but I do like the SIDHY video better. So sue me...

They are both shit videos but at least 'Since I Don't Have You' does not disappear up its own arsehole.

Agree for once, lol.

SIDHY is supposed to be a WTF kind of video, and it achieved that. Estranged was trying to be epic but instead is also a WTF video. Bigger the expectations, bigger the fall.

Also Slash really saves that video (along with the blonde chick, lol). I always really liked him jamming in the boat, I thought it was cool. He also has such a I don't give a fuck vibe about him. It's better than climbing out of the ocean or gliding down sunset strip like he's on rollar skates. But hey, just MY OPINION.

I was just kidding. Really though, I think all GNR's videos are at worst decent, except for SIDHY and The Garden which was pretty dull, at least I know what they were going for there, though. I have no fucking idea what the hell they were trying to do with SIDHY. It just sucks as a music video.

I feel Since I don't have you is one of their best videos. It has a lot of symbology. Slash and the evil clown, who symbolizes the darkness in their lives. Also, love the image of Axl swimming to the surface. The viewer is left in limbo, wondering if he'll escape, if he'll live or die.

Gary is all kinds of wrong in this.

Slash claimed the original concept was for Oldman to play the Marquis De Sade, he would then row Slash across the river Styx during the solo section. Sounds much cooler. They probably thought they would have a hard time conveying exactly who this guy is in the stockings and Victorian clothes. The Marquis might have been a little bit of a cultural question mark in a rock video.

Shitty that they just gave him swim trunks and had him laugh like a doofus. A waste of a great actor.

Marquis de Sade was long since dead (1814) when Queen Victoria ascended the throne (1837). The Victorians also, did not wear stockings. Surely you mean ''Georgian'', or, less Anglocentric, ''First Empire''?
