Do you look down on poor people?

It’s a legit question. I do and why should I be ashamed of it? I have worked my ass off the last 8 years and I'm great with money. I have a paid off truck, a Roth IRA that made over 3 G this last year alone, stock in different places, never once been in debt of any kind. I would own a home if it wasn't for the fact I move around so much.

That being said, should I feel sorry for people that are piss poor with funds? I'm not a millionaire or anything, but I don't understand people that waste money and are in major debt. Oh I'm sure there is an excuse like their parents "touched" them, or they got into drugs, or for the minorities they had to get into that gang life.

Also, if a person can barely pay for one child, then why do they have two or three or four? This makes no sense to me. Same thing with smoking cigarettes, you know it's not good for you and kills you… Why buy them?

WE NEED TO CHANGE!

No, I don't. I'd prefer a class free society where the poor are able to live well and comfortable lives and the rich don't grow richer at poor people's expense. It sickens me to read about how a single mother in say Bronx will have to work two jobs to be able to make it even while her employers, say McDonald's and Walmart, make multi-billion profit every year.

I think people in general handle money badly and consider debt as part of life, debt is something that accumulates over a long period of time, There's not much of a push in schools to teach personal finance even though it's a huge part of our lives. My parents fought over "the bills" all the time.

My grandfather taught me something about gifting money vs lending money, that you're better off gifting it because you're not worried about getting it back, and odds are better that you will get it back when it's gifted. They might promise to repay, but you're not holding them to it the way you would if you loaned it.

The question about why people have a bunch of kids they can't afford ties into a welfare way of thinking, so they wind up trapping themselves into it. I think some people wake up and go "I can't raise my kids around this" and try to better themselves. A lot of times no one tells them about programs they're eligible for and they have to ask about it. Once you're in that system, it's really hard to detach yourself from it.

As far as looking down on poor people? No. I don't know how they got into the situation.

I look down on old people who refuse to acknowledge that music, television and culture can be good after the heyday of their youth and spend their days angry, bitter and listening to assleak rock.

I also look down on southerners and people who still use Facebook.

Poor people are alright. I think I'm technically one of them. I don't even know. I have a relative who's old and supposedly has money so I'll just bide my time and hope I'm in the will.

It's all relative. Statistically 99% of people die with less than 1000 bucks in their bank accounts. People tend to sell off the house they paid off to pay for fancy medical care at the end or to live in a retirement community in Florida or living the dream in Vegas.

So I'm not sure, maybe the ones in debt are the smart ones. You could do worse than taking everything you can borrow and putting it all on black at the roulette wheel. If you win then you home free. If you lose, file for bankruptcy and live off your friends!

I'm unconvinced I seem to remember being really happy when I was poor. The limited options was comforting. Now I could do anything with in reason or have done it so I'm like stumped. No missions left, abort mission, may day, may day!

Gin? Sure.

quite a lot of people I respect have at one time or another been poor or ended up poor. The hungry don't stay hungry for long. I look down on rich people who exploit the poor for their own gain much more.

Also: people that never drink or do drugs. I can't help it. I fuckin' look down on those turds. And really dumb people, and religious people as well. Shallow people. And small dogs. A lot of noise cause they're scared I'll step on them.

I look up to midgets. Like you've gotta be pretty cool to be a midget if you think about it.

Saw a tiny one yesterday riding what I can only describe as a midget scooter. It was awesome, and the midget that was riding it was just as cool. He had tiny midget sunglasses on and did not give a single fuck. Not making this shit up.

What a stupid overgeneralization. Many poor people work much harder than middle class individuals. There was a story going around about a week ago about a woman who worked 5 jobs so she could attempt to advance to the middle class, died in her car whilst trying to nap between jobs. Now 5 is a lot, and probably an outlier, but it is not uncommon to find lower class individuals working 2-3 jobs, 18+ hours a day. I recently took a 50+ hour a week job at a significant pay cut to my last job, because the job market for my field has become smaller, and more competitive in the last 5 or so years. Not to say I'm not a competitive candidate, I am, that's why I got this job, but to look down on "poor people" is such an asinine concept. It wreaks of aristocracy.... I am disappointed TM, I would think that your military service and interactions with individuals in America, and all over the world, would have dissipated any such prejudices you may have had.

I look down on assholes....as long as you aren't an asshole you're fine by me

This times 1000.

People spend way too much time worrying and hating (I can't believe I just used that word) on other people for stupid reasons.

Why anybody would look down on or hate on somebody because of their financial situation, taste in music, because of what movies they like, or for any superficial reason like that is beyond me.

People should spend more time worrying about and trying to improve themselves as opposed to wasting time and energy being obsessed about what other people are doing. LOL - hating on people because they like different kinds of music than you?

And as for the money/job thing. There is a dude who works at a Subway by my work that is the friendliest and most helpful customer service person in my entire town. Even though that 50 year old guy probably only makes 10 bucks an hour, I have tons of respect for him. He has a job and he works his behind off, and he gives the best customer service possible - that's a Win in my book. I have much more respect for him than the guy who makes $30 an hour and acts like he is better than everybody else because he has a big house.

We should spend more time loving and respecting each other. The world would really be a better place.

Excellent post. I tried to write a response myself but found myself repeating everything you had already written.

An important thing to remember is that many homeless people suffer from a mental disability. I personally think few choose to live in poverty. Most have likely lost hope.

Life is too short to judge others who may or may not have their reasons for their lack of wealth.
