Alternate title: What's a black Beatle anyway, a fuckin' roach?

The rumor mill is saying that Kanye West and Paul McCartney are recording an album together, and that it's going to drop without warning later this year.

This has the potential to literally be the greatest thing ever.

I'm not a fan of The Beatles whatsoever, but I do love McCartney's willingness to try new things and to continue putting out music when he could just sit home and eat cheeseburgers all day with the money rolling in.

His albums as The Fireman are fucking fantastic and show his experimental side so I'm all for, and looking forward to, anything he does with Kanye

Kanye is one of music's biggest living legends? Seriously?

I opened this thread expecting something about Dylan or Bowie or Willie Nelson or Neil Young or someone that's really been around long enough to earn the title "living legend".....

Fucking Kanye?

Christ.

How many years do you have to be around to earn the title of living legend?

Dylan was a living legend less than 10 years into his career

and then there's Bruno Sammartino...

I love how people try to discredit Kanye as an artist because of his behaviour. The man has never put out a bad solo album, the worst of his is still incredible. He creates and starts trends in music that others follow and really tries to push the boundaries of what is expected of him.

He is a living legend tbh.

There are a shit-ton of artists that push boundaries in music without the ego and bravado of a Kanye-type personality. I never said anything about his behaviour.

Again, I like Kanye. And he's great at what he does. But he's far from a living legend. People discredit him as an artist because of his behaviour, but his behaviour is also one of the big reasons he's really even noticed. It goes both ways.

He's talented, I don't like his music, but I appreciate some of the shit he pulled musically. I just don't think he's a living legend, and I can't understand how Paul and him can create something that will work together. Seems just as weird as the Lulu thing: I thought it was going to be shit and it turned out to be shit. (imo)

I love how people who put down Kanye never actually refute any of his accomplishments and instead just get mad.

No one's getting mad bro. Kanye is very talented. No doubt about that. It's just when you look at what The Beatles did, and what they've influenced, and you compare it to Kanye like that, I can't take you seriously. Your statement in the previous post is simply not true imo.

Honestly, it's not much of a stretch if you ask me. Each of Kanye's albums sounds remarkably different (aside from the first two) and each one has influenced new styles, techniques and innovations in rap music.

I didn't say Kanye was on the same level or even close to the Beatles. Just that he's the closest parallel.

But it is a stretch. Look at what you compare Kanye to. And it's not cause of the fuckin' name or reputation. The Beatles is probably the most influential band that ever existed. Responsible for shaping the sound of countless bands. I could go on and on and talk about it until I'm red in the fingers, but I don't think I need to.

It's not a knock on Kanye, it's just they're not on the same level. It's not even close.

Edit: closest parallel? how so? cause he influenced new styles? he's not big enough of an innovator to be parallel anything to The Beatles. Rappers and producers came before him that are still alive, or dead that did more for rap in the aspects you've mentioned.
