Julien Temple was following him around, there is footage of him in Jamaica. Thats him with the almighty Big Youth up there, a reggae legend :). Johnny Rudebwoy! He went with Don Letts at the behest of Richard Branson to scout for reggae artists, apparently he walked around in a massive duster jacket and south african hunters hat cuz he didnt wanna get a tan

The importance if that visit for propagating reggae is immeasurable.

Johnny in Jamaica, it's off DOA i think? That or the punk rock movie, my memory has begun to fail me into my old age. There was a very famous radio show he did for Capital FM where he was to bring in his favorite records, everyone was expecting some heavy shit and he comes in with Dr Alimentado and Can and Kraftwerk, McLaren was pulling his hair out over it by all accounts.

Sneak peek because Amazon has me confused whether or not it's on sale in North America, but there are comments on his FB about last night's appearance.

I also saw Billy Idol's book advertised this week so more punk stories coming.

Billy Idol is about as punk as Green Day.

His first book was a great read. One of the most memorable books I read during my childhood (I read it last year).

He was around when punk started and had been in Generation X (whether they're "real punk" or not is a whole other thread, but to me irrelevant 35 years later) , plus there's probably some GNR mention in the book when he lived in LA. I think he had been in an early Neurotic Outsiders.

I dunno man, he always said right from when he came in the door with Generation X that he wanted to play rock n roll...and thats what he did, can't fault him myself even if he's not top of my favorites table.

He was also in Chelsea so the whole "punk cred" thing is kind of silly when he was there. This was one of the photos in the book

Well shit in my cupped hands, if it ain't the king himself :):) :):) :):) Cheers for showing me that Dalsh, I see the brandy on show as usual! I know that Keith and The Who were kinda...affected by punk. Townshend loved it but like...he knew he werent nothing to do with it...except in influence I guess, not that those cunts'd ever admit it

Heard this one story where in the late 70s theres a big queue of punks outside a club and Keith pulls up in a Roller, with a massive fur coat and a silver chalice with Brandy in it, looked at the queue and shouted 'Call yourselves fuckin' Anarchists?!? I never waited in a queue in my fuckin' life!' and walked right in the front door
