Rodzilla72
Yeah, the boring setlist IS the biggest concern........of 2006.I hafta "lol" whenever anyone writes "new song" or "CD II song" in their dream setlists. Ha. Noooobs.Yeah- as blunt and bleak as it sounds this is the sad truth: There's no new songs coming because the organization doesn't have any new songs in the can, and they don't seem to be in the works. pockets
the gnr setlist is predictable. so you know when easy and brownstone is coming. you know when sweet child and nightrain is coming. there's no suprises. the setlist isn't spontaneous. making twat, if the world, shacklers, catcher, and prostitute staples replacing slash will make the setlist interesting and fresh again. as will adding some unreleased songs from cd2 to the setlist as well

They still played there a little over a month after this show.Possibly gnr message board peeps. I dunno. Maybe some journalists also. niceguy
Your biggest concern is the setlist? Of all things, the setlist?Cover bands stick to the big songs, you know, the ones that the casual listeners know. Those casual listeners are the cash cows. This is a cover band. D-GenerationX
You can't replace a huge fan favourite like Nightrain with a CD song... just not going to work. Hard facts: slash played on all of GnRs biggest hits and most popular material... there is no escaping that fact so any musician in GnR will have to play lots of slash Material... the majority of people attending shows don;t care for CD, you have more hope of hearing some deep cut AFD or UYI I & II... at least that pleases everyone, and will usually generate a good crowd reaction, TWAT, if the world... good songs but relatively unknown... known songs will always be chosen over the obscure, until the obscure becomes popular enough to warrant a place in the set. Absolutely. Look at the reaction he got for unearthing 'Yesterdays'. Or 'Esstanged' and 'Civil War' the tour previously. Now, serious question, is "HOLY SHIT!! They played 'If The World'!!!!" a thing that is ever going to be said?
pockets
in my opinion 2014 gnr isn't a cover bandand playing more Chinese songs on a regular basis like twat, itw, catcher, shacklers, and prostitute is what the setlist needsand it wouldn't hurt to preview cd2 playing a few unreleased songs too on a regular basis with the setlistbecause that ='s promotion and sets up cd2 for potential huge sales in stores and onlineand shaking up the setlist is spontaneous and is what needs to happen

A cover band touring South America and playing in Vegas for easy money. Axl is completely done as a music composer. His only wish is to live off of his past hit songs.Playing more Chinese and debuting CD2 songs is completely out of the question. People go to GNR concerts to see Axl singing SCOM, PC, WTTJ, etc. Axl is very smart in choosing not to play more CD/CD2 songs. He knows people don't like them and don't care about them.CD2 potential huge sales? lol. What if Axl refuses to promote it again? The label already did all they can to help Axl. They even released a bluray of a 2 years old show. They give Axl full support but that seems not to be enough for Little Ax. He want$ more MONEY. I bet if he had a son, he would name him "Dollar" or something... It would sell well for an old rock band. Axl being the only one able to prevent it to sell more. It will never be released though.Shaking up the setlist is spontaneous. Thing is, nothing is spontaneous about a GNR show nowadays. Regardless of what Ashba says. Even their moves during the show are all the same. Specially Axl's.And finally, what needs to happen and what will, in fact, happen are two completely different things when it comes to Axl. He seems to always do things the wrong way. And then he blames others when all backfires. Edited October 13, 2014 by ProstituteComa
pockets
I care about cd2 songs I care about 2014 gnr moving forward instead of living in a slash bubbleI hope im not the only one who caresand today gnr isn't a cover band. they are the best band in the world. name a better band.I know in my heart of hearts axl will promote cd2. why else would axl say he's recorded a remix album and the next new album?was axl misquoted by journalists in the music field?and in the 90's on tour despite what the fans prepaid in advance to hear - axl went against the norm and played a whole bunch new songs - making the setlist different and new every nightso why cant axl do that now with the setlist? Nosaj Thing
It is a cover band, though. They're playing material other people wrote for money and fame. As soon as this line-up starts working on their own music, release their own music and start performing their own music, they will stop being a cover band. And yes, they're probably the best Guns N' Roses cover band in the world. Who knows. Edited October 13, 2014 by Nosaj Thing
D-GenerationX
If Axl simply mixed in 2-3 new songs, just like he did in 2002, it would lend some credence to the premise he hasn't given up. A sign of good faith, if you will.

niceguy
gnr is the best rock band in the world right now. not the best cover band. gnr is not a cover band."Best" is totally subjective. But GNR is now a cover band. It's made of musicians who cover the work of the musicians who wrote the songs and made those songs famous. There are 8 people in GNR. Only one of them is playing music which he wrote. 7/8 of GNR is making a living by covering the songs which other people wrote. Meaning, 88% of the people in GNR are covering material they didn't write. That's a cover band.

Have a wank. The question was 'covering' as you know, oh tedious one.Elton John isn't calling his shows Elton John and Bernie Taupin even though that would represent the songwriting team. Paul calls his shows by his name regardless of whether or not his band is "covering" his solo stuff, Beatles or Wings.Meanwhile Axl plays GNR songs and calls it GNR. So what. Get the fuck over it, its been 15 years.

At the last show, not one song was a song created by the current band. They aren't a "covers" band in the sense they just cover "other" band's material. But they certainly aren't a band that releases music as a band, and they are a band that is making a living off of playing material that a different version of their band wrote. So in a way, they are sort of a covers band.Pockets - this is still my favorite band in the world, solely and only because of the lead singer. Are they the best band in the world? Well, we can't judge that from music they've released. So we can only go on live performances, and sadly, there aren't very many people would loft them to being the number one band in the world based on their live shows.Do they have the potential to be the top rock band in the world? Heck yes they do. But it all lays in the hands of Mr. Axl Rose and if he wants to or not. Releasing one album every 20 years sort of shows that he doesn't care that much anymore.
