streak
Can anyone help?I have a sinus issue, my ear on the right side has pressure building up and my nose is blocked up a lot of the time.I made an appointment with the doctor, who told me to take sudafed and some other tablets, which I sort of did, but they only gave me temporary relief. I went back and got refered to a specialist. I got sent for a scan, came back and was told by specialist that I may need surgery to clear them. She prescribed some osrt of drops and gave me some funny sdample thing which is a pump and a pipe to stick up my nose.they weren't clear as to what the fuck the issue actually is. Its either an allergy of some sort. It sounded like they did not know. Can anyone recommend another more natural remedy type way to clear my sinuses?I have had surgery on my nose before and I don't really want to take nasal drops and or surgery if its not going to correct a long term problem
SoulMonster
The normal treatment of sinusitis is to wash the insides of your nose with a saline solution. This is typically achieved by flushing saline water into one nostril and out the oher while bending the head downwards. It is sort of messy but does reduse the inflammation and might open up the passages to the sinuses, and hence alliviate the pressure and get the puss out. Antibiotics are very rarely prescribed (since it has been shown to have little effect), except when you have multiple sinusitises caused by bacteria. All other medications are just helping to relieve symptoms (headache, faceache, toothache), reduce swelling and make the puss more liquid so it easier comes out the sinus passages. If you have a persistent problem, then I am fraid there is little that can be done except what I have described above, or surgery that may make the passages larger so they don't clog up so easily again
Lio
I always use something to inhale. It's called Inhalo Rhinathiol here, but I don't know what the English name is. It's not really natural, but it contains menthol and eucalyptus and you have to put a few drops in hot water and inhale. It's the only thing that helps when I feel my sinuses are blocking. When you inhale, it really hurts the sinuses. Then you know it works I don't have a chronic sinus issue however, so I don't know if it will help you. It would probably only give you temporary relief as well.A friend of mine had chronic sinusitis and eventually she had surgery as well. SoulMonster
It's a drag when flying. I had been taking lots of Sudafed the days prior to flying and when onboard on a long haul the sinuses unclogged and I had this almost constant stream of greenish puss flowing out my nostrils. It was inconvenient.

Use a nasal rinse. I had to when I had brain surgery and it cleaned all the blood and mucous out.
Jakey Styley
Make an appointment with an allergist. Ask your primary doctor for some Dymista samples (if that's not what you were given already.) The doctor should be willing to give those out liberally and that's what helped me in the end. In the mean time, buy Sinus Buster brand nasal spray at the store. One of its' main ingredients is capsaicin, and it burns like hell, but it's important that you buy a natural nasal spray like this instead of, say, the Afrin or Mucinex brand ones. Those ones have a chemical that solve your issue through constricting blood vessels and making more room. However, if you use it a little too much, it actually has a rebound effect, where the blood vessels swell up and your sinuses are more stuffed than before, which is then supplemented by more of the nasal spray, effectively creating a nasal spray addiction. When you blow your nose, does much come out? AdriftatSea
In the states it's called Neil-Med. I have to use it daily. It's a saline rinse. It really helps. Talk to your pharmacist.Edit: Everyone has a deviated septum..well almost. That was the big scam in the '80's and '90's for people to get nose jobs. I know you aren't seeking this and you really have a problem. That is the diagnoses sinus doctor's use so they can pass it off to their surgery docs because insurance readily will pay for this. And no, surgery really doesn't fix the allergy/sinus issue with a deviated septum. There is a sinus surgery that can help. They go in and dig out your sinuses, put tubes up then and leave them awhile until your sinus cavity heals but alas, this doesn't really cure it either. The allergy testing will let you know what you are allergic to, but the allergy medicine is extremely expensive and most insurance will not pay for it.The neil-med rinse helps a lot. Sudafed makes me insane. Not sure if you can take that regularly. I've found Alavert works well. The older I get, the worse my allergies are. Some people just have them, others don't. You may be one of the unlucky ones. I hope you find a solution. Another Edit:I had both of those surgeries - deviated septum because I have such awful allergies and the docs thought it would help - I kept my somewhat crooked nose against their wishes. And the surgery where they dug out my sinuses and put tubes in. It cost a few thousand dollars. That did help for about five years. But the allergies are back. I think it's because I moved from Mississippi to Texas though. There are all sorts of things here that I'm allergic to that we didn't have there. I'm not sure, it could just be getting older. Anyway, the docs say they have no idea. Again, I wish you the best. Having allergies is miserable. Val22
I get a very bad sinus infection at least once a year. My doctor prescribes the "Z" pack. It's the only thing that helps me. Sometimes my front head hurts but the last sinus infection I had, my whole back of my head hurt. It was terrible. it took two different medicines to help me get rid of it.If you have really bad pain, you should see a doctor. If it's not too bad, try Advil for sinus. That seemed to help out a bit too. I took it with the other medicines the doctor gave me.Good luck! I know how much a sinus infection hurts.
