Dr. Who
This song is Brian Jones' musical swan song as a member of the band, it is the last song he leads musically, playing a delicate, melancholy slide guitar that drives the melody. The lyrics might as well be about him and his gradually being pushed of the band he created, and his mental and physical decline, the loss of his girlfriend to his best friend and his early death...It's IMO one of the most poignant songs they ever made. Below is their December 1968 performance of the song, with Brian on slide at his last concert as a Stone.I was wondering your opinions on the song? Take me to the station And put me on a train I've got no expectations To pass through here again Once I was a rich man And now I am so poor But never in my sweet short life Have I felt like this before You heart is like a diamond You throw your pearls at swine And as I watch you leaving me You pack my peace of mind Our love was like the water That splashes on a stone Our love is like our music It's here and then it's gone So take me to the airport And put me on a plane I got no expectations To pass through here again Edited December 10, 2014 by Dr. Who

ChineseIRS
Amazing song. Although he really didnt lead it...at that point he was so messed up that he wasnt really there. And if he was there, he still wasnt really there....they didnt know what Brian would show up to sessions so they pretty much did the sessions without him. He showed up that day while they were recording No Expectations and came out with that beautiful slide part. And that was his real last contribution to the Stones.
gunsfanoldie
I was going to respond, but then I realized Georgy said it word for word.Beautiful track and simultaneously sad and hopeful for Brian Jones' talent. The Rock And Roll Circus performance, while similar to the studio album, is just fantastic.
Georgy Zhukov
Beggar's Banquet was just a gorgeous album. That was the first string of great albums starting from that to Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main Street. They've released other quality albums after that but they peaked with those four.
