so i have these pinyon trees on my property and this is harvest time. i have never done this before but as they are running about 15.99 a lb where i live i thought i'd check mine out. turns out mine are nut bearing. but i came across this..anyone interested in making this PM me and we can work something out!

Not all nuts will be good nuts, alas. It’s a fact of pine nut processing that can be depressing. All that waiting and work, and sometimes your yield is a crappy 50 percent or worse. It happens. At least there’s an easy way to tell if your nuts are good or not. Dump all the nuts in a bucket of water. About 85 percent of those that float are no good. The sinkers are the keepers.

There is something you can do with the floaters, however. You can mash them up — most won’t have any nut at all inside — fill a Mason jar full and cover it with vodka. Put a lid on the jar, wait a few months and bam! Pine nut bourbon. Damn good stuff.

Um...ew?

It was better than it sounds. Not great, but worth trying if you can find it cheap. It's a pretty robust stout with notes of chocolate, and you just get a bit of a burn from the Sriracha at the end. Not crazy hot, just enough to feel it at the back of your throat.

But one bottle was enough - I've checked it off my list.

You just need to google the difference between methanol and ethanol, particularly the boiling points.

have you tried it yet? it makes me queasy just thinking about it  :vomit:

Yeah i finished it between Sunday and Monday night.  I dont actually smell ever so bad but i took a shot and yes, you do know about it when you take a neat shot of it.  Had about two more drinks of it mixed with Dr Pepper but i had to moderate my drinking cuz i had an exam the next morning, knocked the rest of the next night.  Good stuff, two good drinks of it gets you nicely pissed.

I just wanted to try it for the sake of trying it really, its not something i wanna drink on a regular basis, ill stick to my brandy and/or beer.  I'd like to try Everclear just for the sake of trying it though.

I'm pretty sure you can get it here, i mean you can get that Polish shit over here (i only got my mate from Poland to bring it cuz that way i get it for free  ) but thanks for the offer kiddo :)  It was just something i happened to say to a friend who was going to Poland, otherwise i probably would've just tried it when my path crossed it and i happened to fancy it.

Thats pretty much the top of the line in terms of alcohol strength isn't it?

i believe so. though your Polish stuff may be close. it's funny cos when i lived in Cali we had to come here to Nevada to get it. now i have no desire to ever touch it again! kinda like we used to come here to gamble now the only time i go to casinos is to catch a show or for the awesome seafood buffet they have at the Peppermill!

I think the Polish stuff and Everclear is evens?  Still, it'd be nice to try something from our cousins across the pond!  I wanna try Wild Turkey too, thats something I've never tried.  I'm not actually that well versed in drinking in the sense of having tried a wide range of drinks.  I aint never had a cocktail in my life, of any kind, never even tried like flavoured spirits, just straight forward gin, whiskey, rum, vodka, brandy...and then beers and that.  I've tried loads of different ones within those parameters, like different brands but always kinda within that traditional range.  At the pub you just tend to have a pint cuz, well, if you were doing shorts you'd be getting up every five seconds.

i never was one for shots especially tequils, yuck.

never tried Wild Turkey. it's bourbon and i hate that stuff. an acquaintance of mine drank Jack Daniels straight and she bullied me into trying it, it was so gross ( this was back when i was strictly drinkig Tom Collins cocktails...gin. ) she would start drinking it as soon as she got up and she'd take her kid to school drunk as a skunk and one morning she punched a teacher. needless to say she got the kid taken away from her!

most guys don't drink cocktails. i guess they think that's too girly :)

i have always wanted to go to an English pub. they sound much more fun than American bars!

Theres not so many of em about anymore but once upon a time they were like the social hub of any given town.  Its sort of like where you went at lunchtime, where you went before a night on the town, where you went after work etc etc.  They're probably not a lot more fun than American bars most of em, they just hold a significant place in the affections of people around here because i think we have a different attitude to drinking than Americans.

that's interesting, what do you think the difference is?

nowadays most people here go to Starbacks than bars i think!

Im not really sure, not having been to America but like...you can go into pubs in the afternoon and see people there with their kids yknow?  When i was a lad i was 10/11 yrs old around my friends house and his Dad would let us have beer.  Builders have 5 pints at lunchtime and then go back and do the rest of the days shift.  Its just a lot more routine i guess, theres less of a thing made of it.

true i don't think a lot of people take their kids to bars here probably because it's illegal!

from my experience in bars here it's just a place people go to hook up mostly. it was more fun to go when i was underage the thrill factor and all.

my bff before she got all messed up by her ex used to drag me to bars, i never had a desire to go but she is very strong willed and hard to say no to!

yeah i always think of English pubs as very social, people going to be with friends. and a lot of singing cos that's how i've read about them and seen in movies and such!

The sing song bit went out after the 50s but that was a thing, yeah.  I suppose in them days there was a lot less to do, telly with only two channels (right up until the 70s), 8 hours at work and then...well, jack shit really . Bingo for the old blue hairs, literally jack shit going on.  I mean theres always been clubs but you cant go clubbin' every day and not everyones age appropriate for the club.
