Apparently to save a deposit to buy a house.We get along better with the daughter and her husband better than the owners and its getting awkward.... I'm going to tell you a story about how our neighbours saved our ass:It was the day before our wedding, I had loads of stuff to get done on that day, and a few people to meet. I went to the communal toilet and accidentally locked myself out of the flat, without my phone or purse. I knocked on my neighbours door to ask if I could borrow her phone so I could contact the landlady to let me in. She said fine, and then invited me into her flat so I wasn't waiting in the hallway. I saw my neighbour's boyfriend on the laptop, and asks if I could borrow it so I could email my fiancé to let him know what was happening. They kindly agreed. They asked where he worked, and they offered to drive me to his work place so I could borrow his keys. I get along well and a couple of times a year, the whole street have a bbq or some other meeting. But I will never be friends. I know if something happens, they will help me out though. But really close, is not a good idea. When you have a fight, being too close and being a neighbour is not a good combination. It's the same cop too and he just comes in and smokes a blunt with me. It's like not again the neighbours are such assholes. His wife now has her nieces living with her, which I'm happy for since their son lives far away. We've always been there for each other if we needed it, but otherwise we keep to ourselves. We also have awesome neighbors behind us.All in all we live in a nice quiet neighborhood where neighbors keep their houses nice and are helpful if we need to be.Coming originally from NY, when I was a kid most of my neighbors were nice and some were family members, so we were close. Always had tons of friends because we all went to the same school. When you get older and have kids of your own, you become friends with the moms from school again.I don't have many friends now that I'm older, but the ones I have I love and cherish.I believe if people show kindness to others, you will get it in return. Redhead74 Posted December 22, 2014 Share Posted December 22, 2014 I live in a posh neighbourhood but I do fuck all to my garden out front because it's so much work and I have trouble maintaining it. My partner works so many hours he doesn't have time. For a few years the neighbours on our right were pretty grumpy until they saw me one day out front cutting the grass with a 'whipper snipper'. I've done that periodically and they've been much nicer to me since then but I don't maintain the garden as everyone else in the street does. I do notice from time to time that they've cut the grass on my front nature strip for me, which is really nice. Especially considering how snobby some people here can be. I appreciate that, although I'm not sure whether they're doing it out of kindness or "I can't bare the sight so I'll do it myself". The neighbour on the left is a bitter old cunt who is grumpy because he wanted to buy the land we are on when he developed the site next to us and he was rejected. But he did help me get a huge spider off my dashboard one morning, so he redeemed himself by showing a streak of kindness I never knew was there. People are generally pretty cool, I think. I was wary about strangers (I had so many crazy neigbours when living downtown) and knew it was just a temporary home anyway. Now I live in a house with garden in the suburbs with other families around, many with small kids like our own. It's a permanent situation with people in the same demographics and life situation. It makes sense to be friends with them because they can be of help when we are on vacation, baby sit for us, car pool for work, lend out tools, their kids play with our kids etc, and occasionally we want their approval and cooperation (when taking down trees on the property borders, when wanting to build something big, and so on). It wasn't the main reason I wanted out, but they were on the list. My neighbors now are doctors, both the husband and wife. They're never home. They're the best neighbors ever.
