Memories of Axl When He Should Have Been Onstage

Hi Marc,

Do you have any specific memories of Axl during a time when he should have been onstage performing? Basically, in the two hours between official start time and actual start time, what was he up to?

I have to think that management (both his & the venue's) were tearing their hair out when that happened. What was the atmosphere like when this was going on and how did Axl deal with these pretty powerful people telling him to go out and play?

Many thanks again.

all i will say is that I have seen Axl backstage or still at the hotel when he was already late and he just was not ready. It could be as simple as he was still doing his workout or didn't shower yet or didn't finish what ever he was doing in his day that needed to get done before he was going to hit the stage. This is something that can also happen when he doesn't even have a gig that day. He just runs behind sometimes and for that reason he misses or is late to appointments. The thing about Axl is there can be no wine before its time. If he is not ready to go on stage, then you wouldn't want to see him proform anyway. Axl wants to give you his best and if something is off then he's not going to give you something other then his best.

I know you can't really answer for this, but

Do you STILL think that Axl give his best (post 2011)?

Before Marc himself answers I'll offer my opinion (not that anyone cares). I think that since Robin left Axl has changed as a performer and a musician. I wouldn't say he half asses it, but that same extreme passion isn't there anymore.

yeah, I also have shitty time management (though, in my head, I believe it's stellar, just never is in practice). However, as biased of an Axl supporter as I am, I still find it troubling when there's several thousand people waiting on you, for well over an hour and you're showering.

I kind of suspect something else is up, but if Marc can't go there I totally understand.

I think it's called procrastination and it's really bad when you suffer from it. Which is actually a symptom of anxious disease. As for the people waiting, it is something procrastinators just can't handle. It's out of your hands. If you are supposed to start your day at 6am and you get up at 10am, all of your activities will be pushed forward and it's a never ending cycle because he probably went to sleep very late at night (maybe early morning) so when people are working, he was probably sleeping.

There's another famous person who is a procrastinator of that level. It's the CEO of Yahoo! Check it out...

Oh, and, the only thing I find strange is that he didn't get treatment for this. A pill for anxiety or depression could have helped but I dunno if he even wanted to go through that. He just wanted to be accepted the way he is. That custom of being a night owl he probably got it at early stage in his life, and it's hard to change it, specially if your job is a night thing.
