Celebrating 40 years, Rush and Live Nation confirmed that the R40 LIVE Tour will visit 34 cities throughout North America this summer beginning May 8 in Tulsa, OK and finishing August 1 in Los Angeles, CA. These not to be missed concerts will highlight four decades of the band’s music. Tickets for the RUSH: R40 LIVE TOUR will go on sale starting January 30th in select markets at Ticketmaster.com and LiveNation.com.

Over the course of their amazing career, Rush has lived a lifetime together, providing an influential soundtrack to many of their fans’ lives. Some have been with them since the start, while others have discovered them along the way and delved into their incredible body of work.

To quote Dave Grohl from their momentous induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,

After 40 years together and 20 gold and platinum studio albums – Rush is ready to celebrate with the most loyal fans in the world by embarking on their 21st tour, one which will most likely be their last major tour of this magnitude. Celebrate four decades of music with three incredible musicians – all in 1 night.

“Rush built their following the right way. No hype, no bullshit, they did it from the ground up. Their legacy is incredible and their influence undeniable.”

Rush’s vast catalogue includes such classics as 1974’s self-titled debut, 1976’s 2112, 1981’s Moving Pictures, 1996’s Test For Echo, and 2002’sVapor Trails. Rush released their 20th studio album, Clockwork Angels in 2012 via Anthem/Roadrunner Records. The critically acclaimed collection marked their first studio recording since 2007’s Snakes & Arrows, and debuted at #1 in Canada and #2 on the Billboard 200 matching the highest chart debut of the band’s career. Known for their energetic live shows, the most recent Rush release was the R40 collector’s boxset including live footage spanning all four decades of the trio’s career, including over two hours of unreleased material and a rare performance of the seven-part version of “2112” packaged in an impressive 52-page hardcover book.

Their longevity has served a pop culture renaissance, with the band’s rare television appearance —their first in over 30 years—on Comedy Central’sThe Colbert Report, tributes on South Park and a memorable cameo in the film I Love You, Man. A live review from their most recent Clockwork Angelstour boasted “the power-trio interplay could put guys half their age in the burn ward,” while The Globe And Mail declared Rush as “one of the few bands anywhere that just keeps getting better.” A career-chroniclingRolling Stone feature summed up the renowned rock trio’s continuing artistic vitality by observing, “It’s true that Rush doesn’t mean today what it did in ’76 or even ’96. It may mean more.”

Rush have been recognized with eight Juno Awards, seven Grammy nominations, including one for the acclaimed documentary Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage that also won the Audience Award at the Tribeca Film Festival. The band members were inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1994, made Officers of the Order of Canada in 1996 and inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2010. They have received a star on both Canada’s Walk of Fame (1999) and Hollywood Walk of Fame (2010). In 2012, Rush were bestowed with the highest artistic honour in Canada when receiving the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award. To the elation of their fans, Rush were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013.

HELL YEAH!!!!

Hoping for some awesome 70s material like Xanadu, Hemispheres, Jacob's Ladder, Anthem, etc. Clockwork Angels really showcased a lot of great post- Moving Pictures material but I sadly missed it. I wouldn't mind some more of that too.

I'll definitely do what I can to make a gig, it'd be my fourth time seeing them. They were actually my first rock concert back in 2007 for the Snakes and Arrows Tour. I still have the ticket stub.

One of my favorite bands :headbang:

I'm going to the Detroit gig ;)

But don't get your hopes up for 70's material - they don't do much of it anymore because Geddy has a hard time singing the early stuff.

I never get the hype what Rush got over the years.... shitty vocalist, good drummer, average guitarists, average songs

I think I'll leave this alone so I don't rage like a fanboy here.

Anyway, I'll be going to this tour for sure. Cannot miss this. I doubt they'll pull out too much 70s material, unless they make an instrumental medley like they did with R30 Overture. But I guess we'll see! Maybe they'll finally play Jacob's Ladder.

Hey P5! If you go to the Detroit gig can I maybe sit with you? I don't know if any of my friends will be remotely in the area for it

Fuckin' awesome either way!

EDIT- And I'm just really hoping for Xanadu. They could definitely do that one like they did on R30

Yeah, no problem. I am getting tickets as soon as they're on sale though. PM me about it!

I wish they'd bring in a guest singer to do Hemispheres from beginning to end *L*.

The venues are a mix of indoor and outdoor and the tickets seem to range 50-200. 2 Toronto dates if you want to see a hometown gig, places like Irvine Ampitheater and LA Forum to catch them indoors and outdoors on the west coast, at MGM in Vegas (if you can deal with the summer heat during the day), MSG instead of Jones Beach.

Fuck it, if I do 6 gigs then I'll hit 15 Rush gigs on this leg of the tour. Think I'm gonna do:

6/10 - Buffalo

6/14 - Detroit

6/17 - Toronto

6/19 - Toronto

6/21 - Montreal

6/29 - New York

I can do Buffalo and both Toronto gigs without taking off work. Detroit and Montreal are Sundays, so I also don't need to take off work. New York I'd have to, but one day off isn't the end of the world (I can't use my vacation days for Rush, gotta save that for Maiden  )

Just need to decide which ones to go to...

How many are you gonna try and do?

I'm positive about Buffalo, Detroit, and Montreal. I'm pretty sure I'll do one Toronto gig, and then I'll decide on one or two more.

I'm honestly not sure yet. I've never actually seen Rush in Toronto, so I really want to do that. I may also go for the Detroit or Buffalo shows. Not sure yet. I get work schedules months ahead of time, so I need to plan the crap out of this haha.

We gotta meet up if we end up at any of the same gigs (Which seems pretty likely!) :)

Very cool. I mean, it seemed in the works for a while, and they aren't a band I thought wouldn't tour again, but at their age I'm always happy to see it officially announced.

As for shows, they play the same set every night, without fail, so unless this tour is different I'll only attend one night. My other lifelong problem with Rush concerts is I absolutely LOVE the 70s stuff, and pretty much hate everything else. Hate is maybe a strong word, as there are a few songs later on that I like, but on a whole after Moving Pictures it all goes very downhill for me. Clockwork Angels was the first album I truly liked by them in 30 years. And this usually isn't good for me because Geddy can't sing the 70s stuff anymore (understandable, and I do not blame him), so it leaves little for me to attend for.

I saw them once a few years ago on the tour before Clockwork came out. The first set was pretty much a complete waste to me, even though I tried to enjoy it, while the second set was outstanding. All of Moving Pictures (not what I'd choose, but I take what I can get) and a smattering of 70s and current hits. That one half, plus encore, was basically the best Rush concert I can see from them nowadays. If they pull out some big early cuts, I can assure you I will be at MSG for this tour. But if its going to be a walk through the catalogue, with a majority of it Moving Pictures and forward, I just can't justify $150 on that. And its too bad because I'd DIE to see a 70s Rush night, but Geddy just can't sing it anymore and I don't think they have any interest of revisiting it (maybe Alex, but he'd be my only hope).

They had 5 slots on the Clockwork Angels tour where they rotated songs each night, but I see what you're saying - even with the rotating songs, you know exactly what you're gonna get since it was a pattern.

But that won't stop me - I love Rush too much to care. Hell, I saw Maiden play the same setlist 32 times over the last 3 years

Nah, I get it. And they've only got so many years left so might as well squeeze them all in now. And yeah, they did have rotating slots on the Clockwork tour, which pissed me off so much because I didn't go to the night they were in town because they had never played 7 Cities Of Gold (my favorite song off the new album) on two consecutive tour dates. Apparently they chose Boston to be the first night to do that lol. Rush continues to screw me!

I'll have to see what the setlist is. There's no way I can buy tickets before seeing that. I still might shell out the money as they are still incredible live. But yeah, just that one time. I've never been one to see bands more than that if they are playing largely the same songs night to night.

I'll do at least one Toronto date and possibly Buffalo too. I'll be careful about how many multiples I do this year because I'm saving that money for AC/DC. I'm hoping for a bit less of a deep cuts set this time too. As much as I loved hearing so much eighties material last time, the crowd momentum was dead at both shows I saw which really affects the overall experience for me.

I agree - I loved the setlist last tour, but it was pretty evident at every gig I saw that most of the crowd didn't.

Definitely. I'll figure out which shows I'm going to within the next week and post them in here.

I absolutely loved the setlist, but I could see why it would drain some of the energy, which is unfortunate.

Ahhh. LA show at the Forum. I checked the prices. It ranged from $65-200 including fees. It's a tad steep for me. Plus, I'm seeing Foo Fighters 1.5 months after that date, so I probably don't have the budget to commit and see Rush.

It's a bloody shame. Every tour, since they came back (with the exception of R30), the setlists has been pretty darn great and different enough to watch the DVD releases and I'm sure this tour would be no different.
