The other reason why I wanted to get a Zep thread is to include the stuff not on the companion discs, solo stuff, concerts, covers, etc.

They made a point to leave off the stuff you can hear on bootlegs. Even though Jimmy's got better copies.

I'm a Zeppelin freak, but these box sets are disappointing to me. Actually, Jimmy as a whole has been a bit disappointing. The bonus material is often nearly identical to the original recordings, just without a few of the dubs and his "new" album ended up being old, lame sound track snippets. There were some gems on the first three releases (Key to the Highway/Trouble in Mind was magic), but IV, Houses, and Graffiti's bonus content is lacking.

At least Jimmy's been doing more public events and I got to see him last year. And I will say, the remasters are excellent on these rereleases.

In 5 years, Page will remaster them again because of whatever technology is the new "best sounding format ever" and Zeppelin fans will buy them all again...for about the 15th time

Like some of the tracks in general on these are so unnecessary

Does anyone really need an identical WLL with slightly different vocals, less instruments, and no solo? An identical Black Dog with no solo? An identical Stairway with... slightly clearer sound maybe?

Things like Keys to the Highway, Jennings Farm Blues, and La La were cool but if those studio outtakes are so scarce, at least pack the bonus material with live stuff. How about a cleaned up 1977 recording? Pontiac and LA were very good! How about more from 75? Its better than studio tracks that are almost identical. Its no secret that jimmy is an audiophile, but this is kind of stupid

Oh well, its Zeppelin so who cares =) I'm just a bit mad because he kept saying how much work these were and how they kept him from doing other things. I think a new band and tour would have been much better

There's only one thing I'm looking forward to, ITTOD companion of "Carouselambra" where Plant's voice isn't buried in the mix. I doubt he's tweaking the original, but one can hope.

I'm not getting the Super Deluxe but did see he's including the 24 bit HD downloads, which is what people should be listening to.

To me the CD reissues were an afterthought, this was all about the digital downloads as the reason why he decided to go back to remastering. I'm sure Robert could care less. John Paul Jones still being a producer probably cared, and Jason was also involved because he had all the bootlegs and Jimmy went to him to make sure the companion disc didn't have anything he hadn't gotten his hands on.

So yes it was a cash grab, but at the same time, including those HD downloads in the Deluxe Editions is a must-listen to hear what Jimmy actually did. I don't know how the vinyl versions compare to the originals.

LZ did a remaster for the box sets, then 1994. That was it though, so 20 years on, it's fine to use what's out there now and do a remaster project, especially when you can now download lossless, and the audiophiles are migrating towards that and moving on from CDs. Song Remains the Same had divided opinions on the remaster, but I think most people like the remaster.

Jimmy's doing the conversations shows instead of playing live and getting paid for it. He should have brought some of his gear though.

The dragon is probably about heroin and that's why he didn't want to answer that one.

That's why I wanted to do this thread, so some of the bootlegged alternate versions can be posted on here and concerts, all in one thread. I haven't listened to the bootlegs in ages, but I think a lot of the 1&2 sessions were already out there. Jimmy COULD have posted them on the official LZ You Tube page, but didn't. He COULD post full concerts.

They're not as bad as Pink Floyd, who didn't bother to record their 75 & 77 tours. Even now, Nick Mason shakes his head at why they didn't think of doing it (allegedly Animals was recorded but no confirmation).

t's not like people can't hear the companion disc for free because they're posting the albums on Spotify, and did an exclusive interview for them.

Well we've finally made it through all of the albums I really care about. The last 3 will be cool, but personally I've never liked Presence very much, ITTOD will be cool but probably the same companion disc as all the rest, and Coda will be the real wild card.

Just picked up Physical Graffiti and its pretty much another wasted disc. Seriously, every song is identical, and thats not a surprise but more an upset with each disc. Honestly, I couldn't believe that In My Time Of Dying had every single ad lib from the record, minus the cough at the end. Like, its an 11 minute song and it is pretty much note for note identical to what was released. Sorry, but I just don't see the point of those types of inclusions. The only thing that benefits is In The Light, which at least is an attempt at something new and really only sounds cool because everything else is the same. The discs as a whole have been pretty disappointing (even though I expected that, and I am the one that keeps buying them after all), but I've never owned each on its individual CD so at least these will be nice to have for decades to come.

Also, I understood it for the previous discs in terms of live material. We got early with Led Zeppelin I reissue, and we have Song Remains The Same and How The West Was Won to cover those early years. But to not include a Physical Graffiti tour show, to me, is criminal. There are obviously soundboards that are easy to find, but not including a show to have an official release of that tour, and instead get identical work in progress tracks, is to me the stupidest thing so far from these reissues. There's absolutely no justification for that IMO.

Part of me wish they've kept all the PG tracks on one disc. CD can hold them all but I can understand why they kept two disc.

Actually, no, I think the albums are just over 80 minutes which is why they've always been two discs after all these years. I think they're like just one like Bron-Yr-Aur 2 minute track away from being one CD length.
