I just discovered Deep Purple

Still functioning adjectivally. Presupposing Le(a)d Zeppelin consists of two nouns you are left with, ''(some) lead, of some form and capacity, and a gigantic zeppelin blimp''. Most people interpret it as, ''a zeppelin made of lead'' - from the Keith Moon line about 'lead balloon'.

Purple are my favourite of the ''three biggy British heavyweights with an adjective in their nomenclature'', i.e. Purple, Zep, Sabbath. They took themselves less seriously than Zeppelin and were not as ridiculous as Sabbath; they never went down the Tolkien ye olde England mythology bollocks route.

Blackmore is a cynical bastard. I like him. Maybe that's why they arent as big now? I can't see him living in LA on a reality TV show.

But he's doing Folk rock now which is all the rage?

It's more leading a zeppelin. A zeppelin what is lead to water is like a horse that is heavy.

How you go from Deep Purple to a Sarah Brightman/Stevie Nicks mix, I don't know but they play castles and the audience seems to enjoy it. He still plays electric as you'll hear.

I suppose it depends on what the written rules of the language are, and it could be one of those peculiarities of the english language where it surprises non native speakers.

To me it's the same as as 'cheese sandwich'. I would never consider 'cheese' an adjective here.

Great band.

The MK II lineup is their most well known, but I love those early 60's prog-rock albums too, with vocalist Rod Evens and the Coverdale/Hughes era too. That one album with Joe Lynn Turner blows, as does all of their late 80's/early 90's work, but everything that they've done since Steve Morse joined the band has been great.
