Hesitation Marks - opinions?

I gotta say, I pretty much slept on this album when it first dropped, but having returned to it recently, I am starting to warm to it.

Best tracks for me are I Would For You, In Two and Satellite.

What did you guys make of this album?

I would like to love it, but I always lose interest after Satellite. The first eight songs are good, after that the album kind of fizzles out. I pretty much love everything from Pretty Hate Machine to Year Zero, but I can't get into The Slip or Hesitation Marks.

Pretty much everything but the song "Everything" is great on there.

^^ I like that one.

For some reason, this album took aaaages to grow on me, whereas I usually find their music quite immediate.

But once it "clicked" I listened to it non-stop for about two weeks straight.

"A COPY OF A COPY OF A!!!"

Year Zero.

Pretty sure you can still officially download The Slip for free from the website?

Year Zero is the best of the three. The Slip is good, but different. Not necessarily in a good or bad way though.

Of the last four, I'd go:

Year Zero > Hesitation Marks > With Teeth > The Slip

But I go back and forth between Year Zero and HM. The remix album for Year Zero is really good, too.

It's alright, but it really doesn't have enough really strong songs on it to make a good front to back album. A lot of it feels a little bland and underdone in comparison to the rest of NIN's catalog, (besides The Slip anyway) and I think it relies a little too heavily on ambience and mood setting than songwriting.

Not much passion to it but there's good stuff on it. It's just not that exciting or interesting. There's just nothing as epic as The Day the World went Away or rocking as The Perfect Drug.

I really like it but then again I like every NIN record a helluva lot. It's more shaded in and has an intriguing, dripping kinda texture, I really dug The Slip but damn was it very clinical and sparse, without too much emphasis or deliberation on the mood itself, hard to explain, This had a lot more bells and whistles, not as cohesive as his older efforts but that's fine. Various Methods of Escape, Satellite, Copy of A and While I'm Still Here are my faves. Copy of A is brilliant, it starts out like a tiring parody but the goddamn hypnotic loop becomes adamant and infects your brain.
