They were underground, then commercial, then re-sold it in the 90s. But rock was slower invent it I the 60s, the 70s sell it and then 70s moguls like Geffen re-sold it in the 90s. Maybe you can trace rap back to 70s. Grandmaster Flash and Curtis Mayfield. But actual hip hop seems to be microcosm of rock all in one decade.
