Iron MikeyJ
Those that don't get it clearly never watched Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, and Army of Darkness. Which is the ultimate horror trilogy, that's like a Sopranos fans opinion on gangster movies but never watched The Godfather series.

You can't call Army of Darkness "horror", considering the direction of Evil Dead 2. Sam Raimi did a wonderful job with the trilogy, but that's not the ultimate horror trilogy. Nosaj Thing
Yes I can. Name one that's better. No, you can't. You said those three movies were the ultimate horror trilogy. They aren't -- not because they're not good movies, but because the last two are not "horror" per se.army of darkness owes more to slapstick than horrorExactly. Iron MikeyJ
romero's dead trilogy is up therethe three mothers trilogy is up thereRomero's films are great, no doubt but they are not really connected. They are more like stand alone films, not really sequels of each other. Dawn of the dead and day of the dead are semi related, but they don't really have anything in common with night of the living dead, except for zombies. Also he went on to add land of the dead and other semi related sequels, so I'm not sure I can qualify or as a trilogy. When I have heard master film makers talk about trilogies, they all seem to express that a trilogy is one story involving a core group of characters that is told over the course of 3 films. That's what separates a trilogy from a film with two sequels, with each film telling its own story. That's why when I think of true trilogies, I think of the original Star Wars trilogy, Back to the future, Dark Knight, Lord of the rings, and even the Godfather (although Godfather 3 breaks the rules to a certain degree). That's why Evil Dead is without a doubt a trilogy. It is one large story told over the course of a few days in Ash's life. He and his friends show up at the cabin and unleash the evil, and it kills them all except Ash (Evil Dead 1). The next morning Ash thinks he has escaped, but the evil is not gone, it gets into Ash, but he fights it off. The people that own the cabin show up and help ash send the evil back in time (Evil Dead 2). Ash gets sucked back in time along with the evil and ends up in dark ages. A massive fight ensues deadites vs knights (army of darkness). Now I agree that Army of Darkness doesn't have a lot in common with a horror film. But given how the series started, and that he is fighting demons, it still has its roots in horror. So I still consider the series overall to be a horror series, even though Army of Darkness is a bit of stretch. Also lets not forget that Evil Dead 2 originally got a rating of X. It was the only non porn film of its time to get a rating worse than R. (this was before NC17 ratings). The final film was somewhat different than Raimi originally wanted, he had to tone it down just to get a R rating, so it could be played in theaters. That is why the blood is different colors, like blue or green at times. Because the ratings board wouldn't allow him to have any more red blood in the film. So some (not all but some) of the campyness related to Evil Dead 2 was not Raimi's fault or doing. Evil Dead 2 May have some moments of slapstick and comedy in it, but it still remains a horror film.
