Marc,

Since there is discussion going on about this track in the main section, I was wondering if you had talked to Axl or Slash, or both, while they were recording this song. And if you could sense if they just werent clicking? Or if either of them vented to you at all around this time, and if so what were their feelings or outlook? I know Slash had been pretty vocal about it in the press, Axl not so much. Thanks.

They both vented to me. Axl was upset that Slash tried to come in and do a different solo than the Stones one and Axl was right to complane about that and and Slash went back in and fixed it. Slash then complained about after he fixed it Axl went ahead and had Paul put a layer over Slash's solo which ended up being mixed together.

Great question ChineseIRS... Duff has also talked about this song and the fact that he was sober when this was being recorded. Did you interact with Duff at all around this time? Sounds like he was keeping to himself and trying to straighten out his life.

I would only see Duff once in a while. Duff seamed to just be hanging right in the middle. I think he just wanterd to make some new music and had hoped that it was going to somehow work its self out.

Interesting. I remember some interview with Gilby, he was describing the situation after UYI tour like this: Slash, Gilby and Matt wanted to do good old hard rock, Duff and Axl wanted to change the whole thing towards grunge and NIN. Obviously it's a simplification, but on the other hand it says something.
